The first online S.K.A.T.E.-event everybody can enter.
Redo a trick of Mizurov & Co. every week and upload it as a video.
Weekly prizes for the best redone trick - judged by an active voting.
2.500 EUR cash + an exclusive Interview in the Titus Magalog for the King of S.K.A.T.E!
How it works:
A new trick, that must be redone, is presented by a top skater every Monday.
You have seven days to redo, film, and upload the trick on www.king-of-skate.com. An upload countdown on www.king-of-skate.com will announce the time left.
All tricks must be done on flat ground!
If you land the trick, you are moving on to next round.
As soon as you don't upload the trick within seven days, the trick is not clearly visible or not landed properly (hand or foot touches the ground, no clean rolling away), you will recieve a letter.
If that happens to you five times and you complete the word S.K.A.T.E., you are out of the race.
To become the King of S.K.A.T.E, you have to survive the whole starter field and be the last competitor left.
You can enter the competition until the fifth week, but you will get a letter for every so far completed trick. If you enter in the third week, there will already be two completed tricks. Therefore you recieve the letters S and K, but you still have the chance to become the King of S.K.A.T.E. and win 2.500,- EUR cash + an exclusive interview in the Titus Magalog.
The weekly prize is yours, when you get the highest rating for your landed trick after the upload closure on Sunday evening. Furthermore you will be mentioned as winner of the week in the playboard.de news.
The landad tricks can be rated without exception by all registered BESTTRICK-users. Independent of the fact if they are entering the competition or not.
The voting for the tricks ends with the upload-closure. To increase your chance of many votes and a high rating, you should upload your trick as soon as possible every week.
For the competition entry you need an own BESTTRICK-Account.
All uploaded tricks must be done by you in person.
Already uploaded tricks on BESTTRICK are not accepted. You should redo and not present the tricks.
The decision if a trick is landed or not is exclusively made by our unbiased judges. Their judgement is correct and final.
If you are violating these rules, you are excluded from the competition.

Skateboarders set to jam in Lunenburg
by
Robert Hirtle
Veteran local skater Vaughn Whynot
has taken the lead in organizing Spring
Into Skate Jam, slated to take place at
the Lunenburg Skateboard Park April 6.
With spring just around the corner,
it's time for skateboarding enthusiasts of all ages to dust off their
boards and start getting the kinks out for the upcoming season.
One thing that is sure to help them brush off the rust is an
event entitled Spring Into Skate Jam, slated for the Lunenburg
Skateboard Park April 6 beginning at noon.
The event is being organized by veteran South Shore skating
aficionado Vaughn Whynot, who says the idea is to stage a no-cost
skating event that will allow adults and youth alike to come together,
show off their boarding prowess "and just have a good time.
"What a skate jam is, compared to a skate competition, is that kids
would [have] to pay to enter a contest," Mr. Whynot explains. "[But] a
skate jam is groups of friends getting together … [to] just skate and
have fun. What people started doing was saying hey, why can't we do
that and give prizes out for the best skater in the group."
With that idea in mind, Mr. Whynot solicited several local
businesses as well as the Lunenburg recreation department, which
graciously donated prizes for the winning skaters.
Those will be awarded in a variety of competitions which will be
staged for three different skill levels - peewee, intermediate and pro.
He is also looking for volunteers who might be willing to video and
photograph the event as well as individuals "who can help out and just
make sure everything is fine and going smoothly.
"We're kind of hoping some bands would donate their time to come
and play a little bit. That would serve as advertising to them and
bring a little bit of music for the kids. If we did have bands, it
would put a lot more of a feel to the event," he says.
Mr. Whynot says that while skate jams have been held in Lunenburg
before, this event will be different as it will be used as a kickoff
for the summer skating season.
A similar event held in Lunenburg in 2007 attracted over 100
skaters, and he is anticipating that number to double as expressions of
interest have come from as far away as Newfoundland for this year's jam.
"And I'm working on trying to get at least one or two pro
skateboarders to come down just for the weekend to sign a couple of
things and that sort of thing," he adds.
For more information on Spring Into Skate Jam, contact Vaughn Whynot at vaughnwhynot@eastlink.ca or call 530-5870.

Make Your Own Video Camera Handle"
Make Your Own Video Camera Handle
Alright so you want a better way to film lines and all around, make your filming smoother. The answer is a tripod mount handle. Your end result will look like this.
Your best bet is to start working on a clean, level surface. Try not to use the best table in the house, unless no one is going to care. It’s probably better to work on something fairly high off the ground, seeing as I always work on the floor and cause myself uneeded back pain.
To get started, here’s everything you need and it can all be found at your local hardware store. Luckily I found everything in my basement.
One peice of metal, 1 inch wide, 1/8th to 1/4 inch thick and about 20 inches long. More for larger cameras. Less for smaller cameras. Around 20 is average.
One quarter inch bolt to screw the handle into the tripod mount hole.
One wingnut to screw upside down into the screw to secure it to a camera.
A washer or two .
The next step is to drill the hole in the piece of metal. To do this turn your camera upside down and grab a tape measure. Measure the distance from the tripod hole to the front of the camera. That’s how far away from the start of your handle your hole should be. Make a mark there with a marker then use a drill to bore a hole through it. A drill press would be much easier if you have accesss to one. On the handle I made here, the hole was already on the piece of metal so I decided to use that and it’s actually fine for the Panasonic GS series cameras.
After you have your hole drilled decide how far along the metal bar you want your bands to be. You should probably have something along the lines of 6 inches for the bottom, 6 inches for the vertical part, and 7 inches for the top, but like I said earlier, if you’re cameras bigger you might wanna make it bigger. You probably won’t have to make it more than 22 inches. Again, using a measure tape and a marker, make marks at the places you wann to bend at.
Now You want to find something you can use to bend the metal. A couple good choices are:
Some heavy weights, about 100 pounds or so. You can wedge the handle under the very bottom one and lift it up at the marked bend location.
Vise grip, lock it in so you can just bearly see your markings then pull/push to bend it.
A pole, like I did.
Once You have both the bends done that’s just about it. You might want to paint your handle or put some stickers on it to decorate it. One of the coolest things is to get the infrared remote your camera came with and tape it to the top so you can record without taking your hand off the handle.
Screw the handle on to your tripod mount and you’re done!

Positive partnership
Police, youth try new approach to getting helmets on boarders
By STACEY COLWELL
BRIDGEWATER - The Bridgewater Police Service is taking a new approach to dealing with the thorny issue of some skateboarders not wearing helmets, all because of a simple e-mail by a local youth.
Vaughn Whynot recently contacted Cst. Christine Bonnell to voice his concern about a perceived police crackdown on theskate-boarders, suggested many of them can't afford helmets, and that perhaps the department should work with them to find a solution.
"When I got the e-mail, I went out that morning and picked up one of the kids who was 18, and took him to Zellers. I bought three of them out of my own money. I just told him to show me what I needed to buy," said Cst. Bonnell.
Since that day in June, the department has given out almost a dozen helmets, most donated by Wal-Mart.
"I've had kids come up to me in the Superstore when I'm off duty and say, 'Are you the policewoman who has those helmets I've heard about?' I'll say 'yes' and tell them to come see me."
Each person who receives a helmet then signs for it, so Cst. Bonnell said those people should now have no excuse for not using one.
She said the department receives numerous public complaints about skateboarders not wearing helmets, which became a provincial law in 2003. The law carries a potential $25 fine and/or confiscation of a skateboard for up to 30 days. As well, parents may not knowingly allow their children to skateboard without helmets.
"[The police are] the ones enforcing it, so I thought maybe they could meet us halfway," said Mr. Whynot, "because all the kids in Bridgewater who skateboard think the cops are against them, but they're just doing their jobs - so you can't get mad at them - but you can discuss it with them and come up with ideas."
Cst. Christine Bonnell of the Bridgewater Police Service and Vaughn Whynot are attempting to address community concerns about skateboarders not wearing helmets.
The 20 year old is a member of a group which oversees the skateboard park via a subcommittee of the Bridgewater Development Association's youth action team.
"I did a little research, and I think Bridgewater is the only town in Atlantic Canada where cops are willing to provide helmets to kids who can't afford them, or to actually give them out to kids who can't afford them before just taking the legal actions they do. The kids seem a little bit happier about it, because they feel they have a little more leeway to talk to the cop about why they don't want to wear the helmet, but then agree to wear the helmet."
Still, he said there will probably remain an antagonistic relationship between the police and skateboarders over the issue.
"I think it's great that they're willing to help out rather than just slapping cuffs or fines on people, but then you will have a group of a few people who won't like it ... helmets will always be a negative thing for skateboarders, because it's kind of like the man sticking it to us, and we're individuals."
In fact, Mr. Whynot doesn't usually wear a helmet.
"And a lot of my friends don't wear them, but they know what they're doing."
He said it's different for younger kids, who he believes should wear helmets, especially when they first start skateboarding.
Still, Cst. Bonnell has encouraged him to be a good role model for the younger skaters, and to always wear his helmet.
"In every picture in a skateboard magazine, not anybody in any picture or ad has a helmet on," said Mr. Whynot.
"The only people in a skateboard magazine you'll see with a helmet on are the half-pipe guys, because they're going like 25 feet in the air. The kids' role models are these people in the magazines ... that makes it hard when the cops say you should be a good role model."

your time with the U.A.T crew…P.s. that must have been a downer when your ankle
blew up?
DM - I was on the second time around of that tour...a funny story, maybe Scotty Mac
getting into a fight in Moncton ,
and in comes along Sean Hayes for a great suplex ha-ha....definitely a crazy
moment...and yeah huge downer when I broke my leg
VW - Skateboard Set-up right now?
DM - Lenny xxl dgk, gillet bling gold 49s, venture lows, Black Panther swiss
VW - Your Part In “Yesterday’s Future”, which was your fav places to skate in

VW - This is one question I had to ask because it’s always on my mind…what are
your views on this helmet law in Canada ?
DM - Isn’t it only for bikes?
VW - One trick you wish you had on lock down?

Q&A With Greg Brewer
with Vaughn Whynot
Greg Brewer….where the hell have you been. Last
time I saw you, you where throwing down kick melons on the 2way in
Lunenburg at my comp... Well let’s do this Q&A so I can find out
what you have been up too.
VW - State your name, Age, hometown, sponsors, if you’re pro or am?
GB - I'm Greg Brewer I'm 21 years old and my sponsors are Real Skateboards, Spitfire Wheels, Thunder Trucks, and Vans Shoes.
VW - So Mr. Brewer, how are your new sponsors treating you…and do you
miss the east coast…are we east coast…I didn’t do well in geo?
GB - ha-ha oh yes its East alright. The sponsors
are pretty kick-ass right now. They've all been super nice. I just
got back from a trip to the states with Vans for an article in Concrete
so I'm pretty hyped on that.
VW - Skateboard Set-up right now?
GB - Deck- Real 8 and 1/4. 52 mm Spitfire Wheels. Reds Bearings, 147 Thunders Trucks.
VW - Your Part In “Homegrown Slightly lit Video”, which was your fav
places to skate in your part and out of everyone else in that video…who
did you get more pumped off of?
GB - That’s a tough one. Montreal and Toronto are both awesome cities but I think Toronto
was pretty fun. I was super pumped off all the guys we were there
with. I'd never really met any of the boys until then so it was really
fun to get to meet them for a trip like that. Everyone was awesome on
that trip for sure.
VW - Skate Video You Can’t wait to see?
GB - The Fallen Video, Lakai if it ever comes
out. A new flip video would be rad too but I don't know if they're
even doing one right now.
VW - What 1 trick your love doing these days and well hate even trying?
GB - Hardflips.
VW - Non-Skateboard Sponsor You Wish You Had?
GB - Alexander Keith’s or Wendy's.
VW - One thing to tell kids about skateboarding…and reason why you’re still doing it?
GB - Just have fun doing it mainly. It's the
best way to mellow out and meet new people. If you’re having a good
time that’s all that matters and people will see that.
VW - This is one question I had to ask because it’s always on my mind…what are your views on this helmet law in Canada ?
GB - shi*tTY!!! If I hit my head it's my own
fault. Someone could slip on ice or trip off a curb and hit there head
but you don't need helmets to walk on an icy sidewalk. I hope.
VW - One trick you wish you had on lock down?
GB - Switch three flips.
VW - Craziest road trip/demo/skate sesh?
GB - The Homegrown one was fun and the Vans one I just got back from. But when a bunch of us from Fredericton and Moncton went to Calgary and ended up getting to skate in Slam City Jam. That was pretty much the funniest thing ever!
VW - Am and Pro you’re pumped of?
GB - Appleyard, Reynolds, Rowley.
VW - Last scrape you were in?
GB - I try to stay out of trouble, but I almost
went in the police patty wagon the other day for trying to throw a
giant road barrier over a fence ha-ha. As soon as I herd the brakes of
the truck the officer had my face up against the side of the truck and
my arm wrenched around my back ha-ha. Luckily some randoms saved me
and told the cop that a car had just ran into the barrier and they saw
me fixing it. He told them that they could fit in the truck too and
better leave now. So they walked away. I ended up talking my way out
of it because I had New Brunswick ID
and I was “Just visiting for 3 days." Then he was cool with it. He
actually said this stupid line that sounded like some sort of slogan
ha-ha. “You enjoy Vancouver . You do not destroy it!"
VW - Song you’re real into these days.
GB - I dunno I like to keep a good mix of everything.
VW - So G-brew when you coming down to Lunenburg way. We need some beer and you need to destroy the Lbc Park , while I am drunk and watch…hope to hear form you soon...and maybe see you skate.
GB - Hopefully I'll be in New Brunswick around Christmas time. Maybe next summer I'll make a trip again and get to check the new Halifax Park out and come down to Lunenburg and see all the boys.
Lata. Peace!

Q and A with Bruce Treby
20 Questions with Bruce Treby
Questions Asked By Vaughn Whynot
Answers by Bruce Treby
Photos by Scott McClellan
State Your Name, Age & current Location you are at?
Bruce Treby, 21, and I live in Little Harbour, NS
How’s she going?
Things are going great! I’m healthy, back in school and skating as
much as I can when the weather is good. It’s been raining for almost a
month straight now.
So Bruce when you were a kid, what made you start skaten?
I started skating when I was in grade 7 cause I seen a few older
guys doing it and it looked fun. I tried it once and was hooked!
Who did you look up to when growing up (pros, People)?
I mostly looked up to the local guys but for pros I really like Deawon Song and Jamie Thomas
So who are your sponsors these days…and how did this happen, where you a video-tape kid or did they find you?
I ride for Homegrown Skateboards and Ipath Footwear. Homegrown just
kinda found me and I got hooked up with Ipath after “The Burning Whale
Project” was released.
It must have been fun filming parts for the Homegrown Video. Do you have an interesting story from the whole time filming?
Yeah, I had a great time filming. I’d say the most interesting story
from the whole thing is that I was working 6 days a week and filming
only after work and on Sundays. It made it interesting, especially when
we had to drive a few hours to some spots. All in all it was a great
time!
Hey Treby, do you mind me calling you Treby; do you have any hobbies besides skating?
Everyone calls me Treby, even my girlfriend does too! When I’m not
skating I’m usually snowboarding or causing trouble for someone.
What are you views on the harassment
skater get from, police, bikers/bladders and local mouths? Have you
ever encountered arguments or fight because of being a skater?
I’m so sick of getting razzed and harassed by the police and other
“authority figures”. I mean sure their doing a job but this whole
helmet law thing has gone too far. I can’t count the number of times
I’ve been kicked out of spots as soon as I roll up. I haven’t gotten in
a fight but there have been some close calls.
Do you still believe skaten is about roots or is it something else these days?
I like to think skating is about roots but every little kid always
asks who you’re sponsored by or if you’re pro or am and how could they
get sponsored. I think a lot of kids are skating for the wrong reasons
these days.
So anything coming up these days with you (mags, videos, new product) or you keeping low?
I’ve been keeping it pretty low key this year. It was a pretty rough one for injuries.
I saw that footy of your bail….your a
real trooper for getting back into the scene, I also heard you where
more worried for your tattoo then your body, what was you thinking?
That was a rough little patch for me but I’m good to go now. Yeah I
didn’t realize how serious it was until after the surgery but your
right. I was worried bout my tattoo. I went back to the rail and cut
the kink off to keep it for a trophy and decided to try it again and
slammed on my face. Lost a tooth and knocked myself clean out. I didn’t
know who anyone was or what happened for a good 10 or 15 minutes.
Needless to say I’m not going back…lol
Here are a few simple questions, Fav AM this year?
Ryan Decenzo
Fav Pro?
Jereme Rogers, He’s so well rounded on everything.
Last Skate Video you watched?
DVS skate more
Last Mag you read or book?
I haven’t had time for anything but school work….
Biggest Fear?
Not scared anymore. I already lost a tooth skating…might get one for Christmas though!
Trick you’re stoked on? Trick your trying to get down?
Pretty much anything on a rail. And I’ve been trying to get tre flips…..
Saying over used?
Do you think Skate Style is Important, and is this g-unit and/or emo getting out of hand?
Thanks for your time…hope to see
you kick'in around the area around here. Any last words or props for
anyone? P.S. Did you see the Hali-Park, She’s looking sexy.
Thanks to Jesse at Homegrown, Shayne and Mike at S & J for the
Ipath gear, Brad Macdonald, Travis Francis, Scott Maclellan and

Q&A With Ted De Gros
With Vaughn Whynot
1st of all Ted, I would like to thank you on doing
this Q&A with me for the fact as I am a fan of yours since you was
a am on santa Cruz...and now your pro...that’s crazy. I feel honoured
in doing this because it will show that pros are normal guys just
skating for the fact of...well skateboarding…I will also keep this
quick and easy because you must be very busy these days. So let’s
begin.
VW - How’s life mate, just for the record state your name and your sponsors, also your hometown?
TDG - Hey. My name is Ted de Gros. I’m sponsored by Santa Cruz , Lakai, Indy and momentum. Life’s good, I’ve been in Santa Cruz for the last few months. Enjoying the weather and trying to learn to surf.
VW - I been seeing a lot of you in mags these days… which one was you more stoked about?
TDG - My favourite interview in the last couple years was in
Transworld. I think it was 06 sometime. I got lucky and managed to
shoot all the tricks in a few days. I didn’t really plan any of the
tricks so it was a bonus.
VW - Your Parts In “Get Tricks Or Die Tryin'” And “Yesterday’s
Future”, which was your fav places to skate in your parts and out of
everyone else in that video…who did you get more stoked off of?
TDG - I don’t think I had a part in digital. I may have had
some tricks in it. I was definitely in yesterday’s future though. I’ve
been to a lot of really good spots but they’re really scattered. Barcelona
is one of my favourite places to skate because I’m always so stoked
just to be there that skating is funnier. The spots are amazing too. Texas is good. Florida and North Carolina . L.A. is really good but the driving is ridiculous. Vancouver
is fun for me. All the homies. As far as other peoples parts in
Yesterday’s future, Dermer was fun to watch. He didn’t have a lot of
time but he was always stoked to go film for it. Carl Labelle is rad to
skate with too. He loves skating the same way. Dickson’s part was
awesome. Gianmarco was rad too. He’s awesome to watch skate live. He’s
got a lot of heart and likes to charge at shi*t.
VW - So now that you’re pro with Santa Cruz , what varies or differentiates from being an am?
TDG - Your pay is better and you get to see your name on a
board. Other than everything feels the exact same. Your work and
responsibilities are the same. Always gotta work for it.
VW - What is one trick that you are loving these days and which ones are you hating?
TDG - I’m loving mannys these days. I never took the time
until the last couple years. I’ve always loved Rodney and Daewon but I
thought I couldn’t do that stuff. It’s worth a try. I hate three
flips because my trucks are too tight.
VW - What’s your fav spot in Canada …and outside of Canada ?
TDG - Everywhere in Canada is awesome but one of them is all the little islands that separate Vancouver from Vancouver Island . Saltspring, Galliano, Cortes. Number one place is Thormanby Island though. Only cause my family has had a cabin their for a few generations.
VW - What are your views on the helmet law in Canada ?
TDG - What helmet law? Nobody out west has to wear helmets unless they just changed that. In Santa Cruz you’re supposed to wear a helmet at the park. I bring mine and only put it on if the park ranger comes around. Works well.
VW - One trick you wish you had on lock down?
TDG - 1080 flips
VW - Craziest road trip?
TDG - The long ones across America
with alien workshop were the craziest. Not in a good way though. Super
stressful. The best ones were the mad dashes. I don’t know who knows
about or remembers those now. Geoff Dermer, Sean Sayles and maybe Kelly
Bergman were the brains behind those. I think Jon Engle might have
helped with the later ones. It was a bunch of guys from Vancouver that would tour the western half of Canada
and do demos for no apparent reason. They were the shi*t. There was
little to no budget and we’d just go stay on shop-owner’s floors most
if not all the time. It wasn’t a corporate style trip. Just skating
for the hell of it. The people who owned the shops were so rad. They
were the best hosts. They’d have house parties for us and show us the
best time we’d ever had. Glenn Suggitt threw down when we stayed
there. Best dude ever. I think it was guy at ruins in Prince George , he threw an awesome party. I can’t remember the lady’s name in red deer but she ruled.
VW - an Am and pro that gets you pumped?
TDG - Jack Lalane gets me pumped. Emeril too.
VW - Well thanks Ted for doing this for me and the skate scene of the world. Any last words and shout outs?
TDG - No problem. Thanks as well.
