	sorry it took so long to get back to you, for some reason i didn't notice your comment. anyway, when i first started mine, i washed them in regualar shampoo for some stupid reason and that kinda crapped 'em up, but it was okay after awhile, it just kinda slowed the dreading process. when i back combed them I used just regular old beeswax, but I say your best bet is to go to dreadheadhq.com and order one of their kits. its not too expensive and its way worth it.
