My Journal: DEAR MAYOR,
By: Taiwan_Vaughan

Dear Mayor,

I’m one of those people that say they’ve been “saved”. There are a lot of us now, 32 million worldwide and the numbers are climbing rapidly. Although still relatively small in comparison with other clans, our institution has been the driving force behind popular fashions, cutting-edge music, film, and most modern art since the day our culture spawned 60 years ago. Whether alone, or in large groups, our place of worship is never limited to a church, temple or mosque, as we’re free to practice anywhere we like. Though seen in some ways as a cult, what binds us as a whole is not Jesus Christ, Jehovah, Allah, Buddha or even Hello Kitty. In fact our “fundamentalists” are no more than professional athletes, and our scholars produce what become our “bibles” in the form of magazines and DVD’s.

Never sure of whether to call itself a sport, an art, or even a new religion; skateboarding has always been in a league of its own. Together we skateboarders are a secure and unified nation. We share the same joy, the same pain, the same culture, all without needing a single leader to lead us, or boarders to fence us in. We are multinational, and within each of the countless counties we occupy we have no trouble being multicultural. All ages included, our way of life is physically and mentally healthy. A vast majority of us are staying out of trouble and away from a life of videogames while our games are often seen as a vast improvement over others. In the past decade, according to the American NSGA (National Sporting Goods Association) our relatively young sport has been replacing older sports such as Badminton, Billiards, Golf, Soccer, Baseball and Softball, Tennis and Table Tennis, Mountain Biking, and even Basketball, both on the Play Station and in the real world.

It was 17 years ago I started skateboarding. Since then it’s been without a doubt the most positive element in my life, and like so many guilt-ridden Catholics I feel indebt to its existence. Though great for everyone, skateboarding is a perfect outlet for “at risk” kids especially. Personally, any time my life started to go downhill, or if I got into trouble, it was always skateboarding that brought me back to life. Skateboarding’s secret societal healing power is in how it naturally fosters a need to be different and allows those who do it to progress and develop a healthy sense of independence, giving them improved confidence in all walks of life. It provides kids one more opportunity to get outside and actually do something instead of get bored and into trouble. Skateboarding continues to support life long after childhood as well. Being closely connected with the skateboard industry grants an array of highly satisfying job opportunities. I myself make a harmonious living instructing skateboarding, shooting photography and video of professionals, writing stories for skateboard magazines and even designing parks and plazas to skate in.

As one of many grateful skateboarders in existence, I sense a strong need to introduce skateboarding to others, protect what has made it great and keep alive the things that attracted me to it in the first place. It’s my desire to “keep it real", to keep the roots or fundamental characteristics functioning and in intact. Like a farmer I make sure it has plenty of regular waterings, enough fertile soil to root in, and as much light as it can get. Being from the west I’ve witnessed skateboarding in its mature form and feasted on its much larger fruit. Taiwan planted the seed just 10 years ago and it, like many of Taiwan’s borrowed culture or sports, is still a slow growing, vulnerable seedling, in need of special care and nurturing, and must first be grown tall and strong before any type of fruit can be had.

CURRENT ISSUES

In a land lacking translated magazines and subtitled DVDs from the western world, and no strong local history, the skateboard scene here is like an empty shell. Without a clear idea of specific origins, skateboarding and its surrounding economy suffers from the same thing the “Hip Hop”, “Punk” or other borrowed western “youth cultures” suffer from in Taiwan. It quickly becomes a short lived fashion show if not enough new fans know what makes those western scenes shine so bright to begin with, what spawned them, or how they grew so big as to notice them halfway around the world.

In what looks like proof of this theory, over the few years I’ve been in the Taiwanese skateboarding scene, the Taiwanese participation in skateboarding seems as though it has stalled at a modest midway point, odd for a sport that’s #2 next to Snowboarding in a list of the fastest growing sports on the planet. “Faddism” has indeed set in as too many have treated it as meaningless fashion, doing little or nothing to sustain a push forward or to help Taiwan’s skateboarding evolve and grow into the kind of scene one would and should have seen by now.

Not helping the situation also, is the fact that in Taiwan, and in much of the surrounding countries in Asia, skateboarding and its appeal to young people have been used by official “outside” organizations and their corporate associates mainly as a way to help promote the next cell phone, or products that have very little, if anything, to do with actual skateboarding. At the same time, skateboarding and its high potential for boosting tourism and its many profound social health benefits are being ignored and thus not cared for or utilized to the full extent they could be. Official decisions and planning that are said to aid in the promotion of the sport of skateboarding in Taiwan are currently being made by those who would not dare step on a skateboard themselves, and since they don’t skate they naturally know very little about skateboarding. Unfortunately for the Taiwanese tax payers, these “outsider associations” and there confused ideas on skateboarding have been approved by the Taiwan government to promote skateboarding since it first appeared in Taiwan barley 10 years ago. The Chinese Extreme Sports Association (CXA), to name a major example, is officially approved by the federal government to build “skateparks” and put on promotional events in name of something called the “X-Games”. It is quite apparent to whom the facilitation is supposedly for, that these planners and organizers lack the essential skills, experience, and cultural knowledge needed to help produce a strong, long-lasting skateboard scene in Taiwan. In fact, most of the local skaters I’ve talked to believe very strongly that in the C.X.A.’s “misdeeds”, they and their fantasies about us, our scene and industry, may actually be doing more harm than good. It is becoming ever more obvious that what they lack is the involvement of proper expert talent, and in this case they need not search any further than the skaters themselves.

Taiwanese skaters have had next to zero say and with the experts shut out, the parks they steam ahead to build for us, using strange partnerships and at costs that are strangely much too high, lack the necessary user-input and are inappropriately designed. To this day there are over 20 caged-in “X-Games” parks in Taiwan (about one in every major town), all cookie-cutter in nature, and not a single one made with expert skateboarder input. Instead they merely copy what they’ve seen on ESPN (another “outsider institution” wanting in). Up until recently, Taiwanese skateboarders (most of them merely high school aged) were not able, and in some cases too lazy or even unwilling to organize to attain official status and proper government support. But now with worse and worse parks going up, and more and more corporations taking us for granted in these contests, and with less and less respect to our culture, we’ve had no choice but to take matters into our own hands. Even skaters as young as 13 are slowly starting to realize a few things, things that have led to something called the Taichung Skateboarders Association. To become a recognizable and respected group in our community, autonomous in our direction, less vulnerable to exploitation and in charge of what we need to sustain natural growth; we needed to form the TSA. With careful long-term planning, we believe Taiwan’s skateboard scene and its surrounding industry can attain the kind of greatness and exposure it normally attains in every other country it exists in once skaters themselves are in the driver’s seat.

WHY THE OUTSIDERS WANT IN…

The Big Money in Skateboarding

l          There are an estimated 32 million skateboarders in the world, 12 million of whom are in the U.S.

l           Skateboards and skateboard-related products, from about 300 manufacturers of professional-level equipment, generate approximately $5.2 billion in annual retail sales around the world.

l          “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” video game captured the #1 ranking in both sales and revenue for video game sales in 2000, and has continued to achieve top spot each year since.

l           The 2001 Nickelodeon TV Kid’s Choice Awards placed Tony Hawk as “Favorite Male Athlete” in front of Tiger Woods, KobeBryant, and Shaqille O’Neal.

l           Tony Hawk is the 9th most searched for Athlete on yahoo.

l           Skateboarding is growing faster than mountain biking, golfing and 50 other sports tracked by the National Sporting Goods Association.

l          “More Americans rode skateboards last year than played Baseball, according to the Sporting Goods Association.” –USA Today, Aug. 17, 2001

l           Since 1987 the growth rate for skateboarding has been 7.2 percent per year, while baseball declined 27.9 percent and basketball grew only 5.1 percent in that same period. (From the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association’s January 2001 "Sports Participation Topline Report")

PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING

Visions for the future:

Taiwan’s first real skater-designed skate parks and multi-use plazas

Skateparks should be much more than just a place to skate; they should be powerful generators. They should generate more skateboarders and keep them skateboarding forever after they start.

Involving the youth and those with greater experience has been proven to work in Canada, the United States, Australia, and all over Europe. In Canada I was one of the founding members of the Vancouver Skate Park Coalition (VSPC), a coalition of skateboarders and BMX riders fighting for a place of our own, something our government had refused to grant us for well over 20 years.

We first sought a single indoor facility for the long Canadian winters 9 years ago., When we finally got approval to build a, “for skateboarders - by skateboarders” park, it was a huge success. Since then we’ve managed to help construct over 50 (cost-effective) other ones, each better than the last. They’ve been labeled the best in the world by professionals and skateboard magazines for being the most “modern”, “creative” and “technically advanced” concrete skate parks in North America for years and years. They have been hailed by parents, teachers, the police and the government for providing a sustained positive outlet to practice challenging skills and spend one’s time in a safe, social environment.

Because of an organized and highly passionate, self-motivated group like the VSPC, Vancouver is now discovering the benefits of some of the first “multi-use parks and plazas” in the world. The parks are a place where the skaters and the public co-exist comfortably in the same area, livening up parts of the city in the process.

“X”tremely Misunderstood

Last but not least, we as a skateboarding society want to inform the rest of society (especially the one that watches far too much TV), that skateboarding is not all about rings of fire or daredevil freak shows. What we do is about personal growth and our own individual successes. To 99% of us, skateboarding is not “X-treme”. In fact most of us are offended by mere use of it. Some even detest the word extreme or any cute use of the letter “X” in relation to us, since it has literally come to symbolize the corporate exploits of our talent, image and positive energy. At the very least, the word “X”-treme“ reminds us of the overly used marketing propaganda that all too often bears a dorky picture of a phony skateboarder, serving only to further confuse the public.

Style or technique, it doesn’t matter, skateboarding is completely free and self-paced. To the average skater a televised corporate contest seems a lot like a cheap corny circus act, devoid of meaning or soul. The corporate sponsored contests in Taiwan are rarely judged by skaters and the courses that we are enticed to perform on are made even worse than the “X” parks. Attendance by skaters in the televised “X-Games” have gone down over the years as they begin to see the events are mere jokes. Skaters in Taiwan’s young emerging skateboard scene are now finally old enough, or awake enough to suspect a certain form of meddling and many are becoming increasingly disappointed or annoyed with them generally.

A park of our very own making (events included)… can change all that and do a much better job of promoting skateboarding and the positive roll it naturally plays in any modern society.

Our plan is to eventually build (and take care of) a skater-designed, multi-use plaza and park, as well as an indoor facility for skateboarding, art and music. I like to think of the idea as a “Stock 20” for skateboarders.

Your campaigns have always caught my attention as they often emphasize support for the youth and nurturing the diverse cultures that come to Taichung, as well as the quintessential importance of tourism. It seems you have a clear vision of what it will take to make Taichung a truly modern and international city, especially as it relates to your young people, the ones bringing new life and culture to the city.

The TSA would like to pull you away from your busy schedule and invite you to one of our monthly meetings to show you what we’re currently working on and discuss these issues in more detail.

As everyone knows, your young people truly are the future of Taiwan! ….Let’s help make it both a healthy and thriving one.

In sincere respect to you, your island, and all your people,

Vaughan Neville

Do I Exsist To Him?

He sits there,
breathing in the air.
I wish he would look my way,
but what in the world would I say?
He's out of my league but I don't care,
so I just sit here and stare.
I wish he'd talk to me,
why can't he just see.
But instead he just sits there,
breathing the air I breath.

PFL DVD RELEASE
& TRYOUTS COMPETITION

Fri. Jan. 12/07
The Mod Club - 722 College St.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Cover: $12

About The PFL
The Pillow Fight League (PFL) leads the way as the most exciting and innovative new wave in sports entertainment. Featuring strong female combatants, the PFL is engaged in the unprecedented whip-action attack of pillow fighting. Not just for the slumber-party sleepover anymore, these women are serious brawlers - armed with beauty, brains and a nasty disposition. The contests are fast-paced and furious, with flying feathers and hard-hitting moves. There are various ways to win a match, with a referee always on hand to keep the hair-pulling and scratching to a minimum.

The Past
The Pillow Fight League was founded in February 2004 by PFL Commissioner Stacey P. Case, and Honorary PFL Commissioner Craig Daniels. Two live events using the original concept of the PFL were held - New Year's Eve 2004 and 2005 - with performers from Canadian burlesque troupe “Skin Tight Outta Sight” as the fighters. New Year's Eve 2005 featured the first instance of live audience tryouts. The two gals who fought tore each other apart. THIS was the true birth of the Pillow Fight League.

The Present
After months of tryouts and training, the PFL now has a full roster of female fighters. The first live PFL Event, PFL1 in May 2006, was witnessed by a sellout crowd of over 300 fight fans. The PFL has been featured in TV, radio, and print media nationally and internationally. Recent media coverage includes The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, The National Post, CBC National Radio, Q107 FM, Rogers Sportsnet, CITY-TV, Ed's Night Party, and Playboy Radio. PFL2 took place on Thursday June 22 at 1032 Queen St. West (Toronto). PFL3 was at The Courthouse, Toronto on Thursday, August 17th, 2006.

My Journal: Top 10
By: nitro_boi

There were a few too many disappointments for Canuck fans' this season, but a little rooting around turns up plenty of positives. At least 10 by my count.

10 - A six-game win streak kicked off October 14th with a 5-3 victory in Minnesota and finished two weeks later in Colorado.
Vancouver manhandled their opponents 28-14 during the run which included wins over Dallas, Colorado, and an old nemesis in Jake Lemaire's Wild.
Eight of the Canucks' goals came from defenders, and by December, the team boasted one of highest scoring defensive units in the league.
Rear guards tallied 46 times by season's end, and the team went 24-6-4 in games when a defenceman netted a goal.

“It’s good,” said Naslund after the fifth straight victory, a 6-4 win over the Avalanche. “But I’ve said it before, we can play better. We can get the power play working and use our speed more. We’ll keep getting better here.”

They did, it just didn't last.

9 – With three games remaining, and the Canuck desperately needing points in a home-and-home series with the Sharks to capture a playoff spot, the team came out flying. Nolan Baumgartner bagged two assists and Bryan Allen scored his seventh goal of the year in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Joe Thornton's magic tape eventually won it 5-4 overtime.
While the lost point pretty much buried the Canucks' post-season hopes, the 'depth' defenders each capped breakout seasons that night.
A career minor-leaguer, Baumgartner made the opening night roster and skated in more NHL games this season (70) than he had in the past 10 years (48). He finished tied with Henrik Sedin for the highest plus/minus on the team (+11), and racked up more points (34) than any other defenceman.
Bryan Allen averaged over 20 minutes per game and finished a plus-4 while recording a personal-best seven goals and 17 points.
Despite fears that the Canucks' blue line was desperately thin to start the year, the depth guys proved capable and steady.

8 – Prior to opening day, several high profile members of the media predicted the Canucks would meet Ottawa in the 2006 Stanley Cup finals. Those picks seemed pretty shrewd two months into the season. Ottawa led the NHL standings and the Canucks were battling for the Northwest Division lead with an 18-9-2 record when the teams met December 9th.
Markus Naslund and Henrik Sedin scored in regulation while Alex Auld stoned Danny Heatley, Jason Spezza, and Mike Fisher in the shootout. Daniel Sedin, the Canucks' fourth shooter, won it by lifting a puck over Dominik Hasek's glove.

“It was a playoff atmosphere," said Bertuzzi. "It was one of those games where you’ve got to dig real deep in order to be successful, and we did a lot of that.”

The victory in the "Battle of Canada" was Auld's 10th of the year and improved Vancouver's home record to 13-1.

7 – The Canucks rode a three-game losing streak into General Motors Place November 13 in game 18 against Detroit. Back-to-back losses in Calgary had allowed the Flames to pull even in the Northwest Division race.
Todd Bertuzzi came screaming out of the clear blue sky and tore a gaping hole through the middle Detroit's defense.
Bert's fourth career hat-trick paced the Canucks to a 4-1 victory improving Vancouver's record to 11-5-2.

“It was just getting little bit more puck luck,” said Bertuzzi, whose hat-trick gave him seven goals on the year. “The chances were there, I just wasn’t putting them away before. I was fortunate enough to get a handful of good chances tonight.”

While injuries and spotty defence eventually hobbled the playoff drive, Bertuzzi's three-goal effort gave fans a reason to cheer.
In all, the much-beleaguered Bertuzzi finished what Marc Crawford described as the "most challenging year any player has had to go through," tied for third in team scoring with 25 goals and 71 points. That's more than both Jarome Iginla and Martin St. Louis. It was also the third-most productive year of Bertuzzi's career.
Despite all the talk-radio rhetoric, Bertuzzi stated unequivocally that he wants to be back in a Canuck uniform next year.

6 – By game 79 the Canucks probably would've needed a hostage to get into the playoffs. Two points behind the Sharks for eighth spot and having lost three straight, hope was fading fast. The Canucks needed a lift and they got it when Ed Jovanovski returned after missing 38 of the previous 40 games with a torn abdominal muscle.
Swashbuckling Ed broke a 2-2 tie in his first game in over two months when he slid into the slot and snuck the overtime winner through Mikka Kiprusoff.
The 3-2 win over the division-leading Flames eventually gave the Canucks an opportunity to catch Edmonton for the eighth seed.

In all, Eddie scored eight goals and had 33 points in just 44 games. The Canucks were 19-17-2 without him, and just as bad, Team Canada is 0-1 at the Olympics minus Jovo's 'crazy legs'.

"I think you learn from disappointments," said Jovanovski. "It's another year gone by that hasn't been what we wanted. You have to give yourself a good look in the mirror and recharge yourself and get back to giving that extra little bit to take the next step."

5 – The Leafs floated into Vancouver January 10th for the only meeting between the national rivals. The Canucks were coming off a big OT win over Calgary, but just two wins over an eight-game holiday stretch had them four points back of the division lead.

While sticking it to the insufferable Toronto fans is enough to earn fifth spot on its own, the 4-3 victory over the Leafs isn't why game 43 sticks out.
Alexander Burrows, the 25 year-old whirlwind from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, scored his first NHL goal spinning out from behind the net and lifting the 3-2, go-ahead goal over Ed Belfour's glove late in the second period.
Over the next 37 games Burrows endeared himself to Canuck fans with his pure enthusiasm and tenacity. He scored in back-to-back games against Buffalo and Montreal in mid January, and became only the fifth Canuck rookie to record a hat-trick when he potted three in a 6-3 victory over the Kings March 27th.

"I learned so much being around these guys for three months," said Burrows, who spent last season in the ECHL. "Even though we didn't make the playoffs and kind of struggled down the stretch, there were still a lot of positives for me personally."

In all, Burrows dressed for 43 games and scored 7 goals and 12 points.

4 - The Canucks trucked the tail end of seven-game road trip into Calgary February 3rd in game 54. After dropping three of the first five games, they sat tied with the Flames in the division standings and had beaten them just once in five previous meetings.
Daniel Sedin scored three assists but was a distant second star to Ryan Kesler – the lanky greenhorn from Michigan.

Kesler scored the winner in the final minute of the second period kicking a Daniel Sedin pass up to his stick off the wing and beating Mikka Kipprusoff between the legs. Just as impressive as his goal, Kesler challenged Jarome Iginla off a puck-drop early in the first with the Canucks trailing by a goal.

"Things happened," he said. "Emotions were running high and I think the team needed a lift, so I gave it to them."

The scrap was easily the best of the season and signaled Kesler's arrival as a difference-maker for Vancouver.

"That whole game was a personal highlight for me," said Kesler, who played in all 82 games and had 23 points while averaging 14 minutes a night.

3 – On March 27th, after taking four of six points from the Oilers in a three game set, the Canucks sat in eighth spot needing a win in game 73 to keep pace with the pack in the Western Conference playoff race.
Aside from a lopsided 7-4 score, and the fact that the win boosted the Canucks into a seventh-place tie with Edmonton, the game was significant because of Anson Carter.
After signing a one-year, $1 million deal to start the year, Carter had rolled out a dream season riding shotgun with the Twins.
Against the Kings he set a new personal best with his 29th of the year late on a first-period power play.

"I'm playing with two guys who are great passers and shooters, so I had the best of both worlds," said Carter, who poached so many gift-goals off the Twins passing that he should name his first-born Danrick. "It certainly helped rejuvenate me."

Carter led the team in goals (33), power-play goals (15) and game-winning goals (7), and was named "Most Exciting Player" by the fans at season's end.

"I think scoring my first goal as a Canuck," said Carter, when asked to name his personal highlight. "You never get sick of scoring firsts I guess."

2 – it's almost unfair to lump these two guys together, but seeing as they play the game like some a kind of eerie unibeing, it's hard to look at them individually.
Canuck fans will remember 2005-06 as the year the Twins lived up to the hype.
It's hard to pick out a single game that does justice to their many accomplishments because they hit so many milestones.

They each hit new career highs in goals, points, assists. Henrik led the team in helpers and finished second only to Markus Naslund's 79 points. Daniel finished the year tied with Bertuzzi for third in team scoring with 71 points.

At $1.25 million apiece, they just might have been the best bargains in the league this season.

Along with Carter, the trio combined for 201 points and was a plus-17. Between them, they amassed 146 points (18-57-75 for Hank, 22-49-71 for Danny) in under 17 minutes of ice per game. Given the Twins took regular penalty-killing shifts on the 7th most penalized team, their accomplishments are even more impressive.

"We felt like we didn't do what we knew we could do the first few years," said Daniel. "I guess you could say we wanted to prove ourselves to the city and money wasn't the most important thing. We wanted to show fans and ourselves that we could play at this level. We did that this year."

To put their year in perspective, imagine where Vancouver would have been without the Twins. Their new winger scored 33 goals to lead the team, but one or both of the Sedins assisted on 32 of Carter's 33 goals. In all, they accounted for 73 of Vancouver's goals and were the most consistent performers all year long.

1 – midway through the first period of a 3-2 win over the Ducks in game 21, Rob Niedermayer plowed into Dan Cloutier's crease and plopped himself on top of Vancouver's franchise netminder. Cloutier tore a knee ligament as a result and didn't play another game.

With an NHL resume 28-games long, back-up Alex Auld was tossed into the soup. The 25-year-old Thunder Bay, Ontario native played the next 56 of the final 61 regular-season games.

"It was a lot of pressure for a long time and you definitely feel it," said Auld. "But I never wished it would go away. It's something I always took the approach to embrace and thrive under. And it comes with the territory of playing in a passionate market."

Auld finished a 2.94 goals-against average, a .902 save percentage, and a record of 33-26-6. He was the Molson Cup (three-star selections) winner at season's end and was voted the team MVP by the fans.

Only eight goaltenders had more wins than Auldy, and only four played more games. Though he didn't record a single shutout, he won 17 one-goal games and was outstanding in his first real NHL season.

And despite the fact he couldn't will his team into the post-season, Auld gave Vancouver fans a lot to look forward to.

Afterbirth

I was born in a house
Of glass and silver floors
There were so many people
Wearing masks
One question with two answers
I asked

Anywhere is better than here
Away from you
Breed me, breed me
Give me away
Lie to me, lie to me
Give me away

What do you say? Just you and I,
South on the five,
For a couple of days?
You take your car, ill take my bag
You take the wheel, ill gather money
For gas

Anywhere is better than here,
Away from you
Breed me, breed me
Give me away
Lie to me, lie to me give me away

Danny, oh danny

I was born to be given away.....
Breed me, breed me
Give me away
Lie to me, lie to me
Give me away
They told me...
A little boy who had been wearing my face had
Told me I was born to be given away

And We All Have A Hell

Every day gets worse,
Locked in a vice my thoughts perverse
You must wonder why I look at you that way
Tonight ill make my way into your house
I must; I'm lusting for your body
Skin looks tight, think I just might have
To take a bit, but I know one will turn
To three or four or more my little whore

Tonight, tonight
She's not alone (can you taste the wicked in the room?)
Bobbysoxer so pure, so young
(By morning her soul will be gone, gone, gone.)

I did a beautiful thing,
Relax baby, that's a good girl
You're like my work of art
I can control, I can contort any
Position that I wish,
I make my fantasy reality
Hold still, it will be over soon

Tonight, tonight
She's not alone (can you taste the wicked in the room?)
Bobbysoxer so pure, so young
(By morning her soul will be gone)

I blend with the walls so I won't be seen
My love, you smell so....................
I took one good look,
And I followed you home

Tonight, tonight
She's not alone (can you taste the wicked in the room?)
Bobbysoxer so pure, so young
(By morning her sould will be gone)

Girl, you must think that I'm crazy,
but we all know you's a cutie,
and you're all like, "nuh-uh, boys don't wanna get with me"
Girl, please
I can see right through those
fake colored contacts;
your eyes ain't blue, I bet that hair's held by glue

Hey, shorty, why you playing games
These games were played, the rules were made,
you dropped those names, and now you got nothing to say

It's like that episode of cheaters,
and I'm that dude with the gun,
hiding cameras in your bedroom
Girl, I know what you've done;
I might be your baby's daddy,
but that don't mean shi*t
when every dude on the block
knows that you're a trick

Hey, shorty, why you playing games
These games were played, the rules were made,
you dropped those names, and now you got nothing to say

Uh, I'm not a rock star, but I still tend to rock hard
You try to play games, tease and try to keep me rock hard,
try to make me slap you and see me in a cop car,
catch me speeding in stock cars, expecting me to stop hard
You playing with the mind of the craziest kind,
telling me how much you love me when I know that you're lying;
you must be snorting lines if you think that I'm crying
You manipulating backstabbing cold and kaniving,
I went from last to first but this is first to last
I'm the major league player, you can kiss my ass, trick

Drop it like it's hot!
Shake it like a salt shaker
Hot!
Shake it like a salt shaker
Hot!
Shake it like a salt shaker
Hot!
Shake it like a salt shaker

Emily

Smiles and Her laughter.
It's the only thing that I've been waiting for
A time,
Regardless of our distance,
And our Hope grows greater.
Trapped by pretty eyes and letters for a time.
The only thing that I've been waiting for.

I hope it's something worth the waiting
'Cause it's the only thought that I ever feel Real
Thunder Storms could never stop me.
'Cause there's no one in the world like Emily

She's Simple yet Confusing.
Her Sparkling Eyes make me Weak at my words,
They tremble.
Days seem like years in this month of December.
The winter,
Coldens me for I have yet to Sleep.
And Never will I give up trying,
'Cause you're everything to me.

I hope it's something Worth the Waiting.
It’s the only time that I ever Feel Real.
'Cause Thunder Storms could never stop me.
'Cause there's no one in the world like Emily.

There's no one in the world like Emily.

Failer by Designer Jeans

I’m a mess of insecurities
Attention starved with a narcissistic twist
Don't you think that I’m amazing?
Please tell me I'm worth dating
I have every reason not to leave home today

Mirror, mirror, how amazing is my figure?
Your visitors they fall apart before my pictures
Mirror, how amazing is my figure?
Your visitors they fall apart before my pictures

Please don’t believe my words are lacking honesty
I’ll be the boy you can’t resist
You’ll be the tenth girl on my list
I’ll write your name upon my chest
These less than three's will never rest
Please don’t believe my words are lacking honesty

Mirror, mirror, how amazing is my figure?
Your visitors they fall apart before my pictures
Mirror, how amazing is my figure?
Your visitors they fall apart before my pictures

You'll be the last girl on my list
action's just a click away
these things photographs could never say
[x2]

Please don’t believe my words are lacking honesty
Please don’t believe my words are lacking honesty

Featuring Some Of Your Favorite Words

good to see you come so easy
when I need your love so badly
here's to playing tug of war with my vocal chords
maybe I can give this another
shot or sing about a broken heart
or immitate the way it feels if this is happening for real

Chorus:
this distance seems closer
when you shove it in my face
this moment has left me with nothing else to say
I'm losing my interest with these empty pages
they're torn and have frayed ends
this darn dusty book
is bothered by my rusty eye and I can't see no I can't breathe
put me on the next page outta here
to live forever on this paper
capture this void and fill it with the frenzy in my voice

killing time by drawing faces that stare back at me from the margins
in a sea of 8 and a half by elevens
I'm drowing in
treading through run on sentences
and sinking into empty text
i'll swallow the salt
then spit a few dry words out

[Chorus]

no matter what I say no matter what I write here I'm sick of always
looking at this page with a blank stare
you never seem to know what they never seem to tell you
words don't always come as easily as you might want them to
x2
throw this paper into fire and take me with it, just take me with it
throw this paper into fire, into fire yeah
throw this paper into fire, into this fire
throw this paper into fire, and throw me with it, just throw me with it

For The Taking

Ive got the world crashing down, down around my feet
Ive got the world crashing down, down around my feet
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Before you take me home, there's just a few things i wanted you to know.
Take a deep breath, its been an hour,
And we've been walking for a million miles tonight,
dont fight the things i know you want to say to me.
So please, dont make it harder than it has to be
Dont make it harder than it has to be
Dont make it harder than it has to be
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Time is only temporary, this will not last forever
Before you take me home, please don't tell me what i don't wanna know.
Wipe your eyes dry, you'll see clearer.
The end of this is coming close to us, dont rush,
I've heard that line a million times from you and its true, the midnight
sky is another shade of blue. the midnight
sky is another shade of blue.the midnight
sky is another shade of...
My heart is yours for the taking,
My heart is yours...for the taking.
The world is falling like a final curtain to my feet, and the wish for your applause is taking over me
The world is falling like a final curtain to my feet, and the wish for your applause is taking over me

Heroine

Oh mother, is it hard to recognize me now?
Mother, why can't you recognize me now?

Assimilate?
And everything's fine
but I lied

Little boy
Little man
I've lost my name

Heroine, oh heroine
Where have you been when I needed you?

Little boy
Little man
I've lost my name

Heroine, oh heroine
Where have you been when I needed you?

I Liked You Better Before You Were Naked On The Internet

it's amazing what you'll find when you just open your eyes
sometimes love can leave you blind
but still you try, to cover all the lies and ignore all the signs
sometimes love can leave you blind

what i thought was a certainty(was a certainty)
has left me(left me)
spinning in circles again

comparing to the last time that we had spoke it seems to
me that youre not happy, like you used to be

to you i'm like a flavor that wouldn't last
you took one bite and spat me out real fast

and now this mark remains and will never ever go away
and now this mark remains and will never ever go away
and now this mark remains and will never ever go away

Kiss Me, I'm Contagious

I break hearts like the west was won
(they call me the rattlesnake)
Baby i look like an outlaw
(Like an outlaw baby)
play poker all day at the saloon
(you cheating bastard)
i'll get you in the saddle soon, soon , oh yeah

we won't back down
(bang bang guns go bang)
from a fight
(bang bang guns go bang)
ninety paces west
(bang bang guns go bang)
at noon we draw to
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death, oh yeah

there was a man from way back west
(that desperado ain't got shi*t on me)
he took 12 rounds straight to the chest
(thats two six shooters to be exact)
at night this town, remains awake
(for they keep their eyes wide open)
in terror of the rattlesnake

i bite it but i don't light it
(this town ain't big enough for the both of us)
i'll use the rope and i'll ride her
(i'd tap that ass)
two barrels and a whole lotta bang
and when i'm done with it
this town will never be the same

we won't back down
(bang bang guns go bang)
from a fight
(bang bang guns go bang)
ninety paces west
(bang bang guns go bang)
at noon we draw to,
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death
we draw to death, oh yeah

can i touch your legs
do i make you sweat

Mothersound

Verse 1
Mothersound!
What have they done to you?
Your withering away in the cold...
Mothersound!
Once again, the world's blasting you
It took your soul...

Chorus
I, have done this for the sound,
Have done this for the sake of you,
the sake of me...
And you can mark my f*cking words,
We are the ones supposed to be,
We're here to rise the rubble,

Verse 2
Thanks to you,
We get arrangements for exposing
what you are and what you've done,
(?)
No better time, than now
To change what has been written
I have been taught,
That those who would not know ...better

Chorus
I, have done this for the sound,
Have done this for the sake of you,
the sake of me,
and you can mark my f*cking words,
We are the ones supposed to be,
We're here to rise the rubble.

ooooooohhhhh....

Chorus
I, have done this for the sound,
Have done this for the sake of you,
the sake of me,
and you can mark my f*cking words,
We are the ones supposed to be,
And we're here to rise the rubble! x2

(Bass, guitars, and drums finish the song)

My Heart Your Hands

Here’s a letter, I'm writing to You.
Of all the things, I never could have said (And it’s the truth).
It's the letter, You're burning from Me.
Of all the things, YOU NEVER WANTED TO HEAR!

I don't know what I, I'm trying to say.
STENCIL IN YOUR HEART, INTO ANOTHERS HANDS!
And You're saying.. NOTHING AT ALL!
NOTHING! AT ALL!

I don't know what I, I'm trying to say.
STENCIL IN YOUR HEART INTO ANOTHERS HANDS!
And You say it best... MY HEART YOUR HANDS!
MY HEART! YOUR HANDS!

CAN YOU FEEL IT BURN?
CAN YOU?
CAN YOU FEEL IT BURN?
CAN YOU?
CAN YOU FEEL IT BURN?
(BURN INSIDE, BURN BURN INSIDE YOUR HEART!
BURN INSIDE YOUR HEART!)

HERE’S A LETTER, I'M WRITING TO YOU!
OF ALL THE THINGS, I NEVER COULD HAVE SAID!
IT'S THE LETTER, YOU'RE BURNING FROM ME!
OF ALL THE THINGS YOU NEVER WANTED TO HEAR!

I don't know what I, I'm trying to say.
STENCIL IN MY HEART, INTO ANOTHERS HANDS!
And You're saying... NOTHING AT ALL!
NOTHING! AT ALL!
NOTHING! AT ALL!

I don't know what I, I'm trying to say.
STENCIL IN YOUR HEART INTO ANOTHERS HANDS!
And You say it best... My heart Your hands..

(Close Your eyes..)
(Close Your eyes..)
(Close Your eyes..)
Close Your eyes and think of Me.
I'm taking back everything.
Close Your eyes and think of Me.
I'm taking back everything.

I CAN'T! I CAN’T FORGET YOUR FACE!
here's a letter, you'll burn
(You're burning from Me..)
I CAN'T! I CAN’T FORGET WHAT YOU'VE SAID!
(You're burning from Me..)
here's a letter you'll burn
I CAN'T ERASE MY MEMORIES!
here's a letter, you'll burn
(You're burning from Me..)
IT'S LIKE RUNNING FROM A GHOST!
here's a letter, you'll burn
You're burning from Me..
You're burning from Me..
I CAN'T FORGET YOUR FACE!
You're burning from Me..
I CAN'T FORGET THE THINGS YOU'VE SAID!

Note To Self

Two roads split off from here,
and my life goes running in opposite directions.
Exaggerating the barrier between who I am,
and who I want to be.

I wanted to be the breath of fresh air,
When everything smelled so insincere.
But this taste still lingers in my mouth,
Deceit has ways of sticking around.
And I'm ready to disappear,
Vacation seems far... seems far from here.

Note to self:
I miss you terribly.
This is what
we call a tragedy.
Come back to me,
Come back to me,
To me.
(repeat)

I can feel my mind,
wandering again.
Into where I dont know,
and will I ever get home?
Time starts moving,
faster than I can.
And I'm sick of this scene,
I need to break the routine.
(repeat)

Two roads...
Split off from here,
and my life goes running in opposite directions.
Exaggerating the barrier between who I am,
and who I want to....

Which part of me is lost?
I feel so close,
and yet I am so far.
Which part of me is lost?
I feel so close,
and yet I am so far.

Populace In Two

Your memories will always haunt me like a ghost
To put it nicely I hope you choke
A poet of sorts but I'm not enough, to give you an eyesore
Its hard to swallow with your hands around my throat
I'm sick and tired I told you so
You can call me at home but I know better than to answer the phone
When people ask about the last time that we spoke
I let the stitches do the talking for the most, part
And I leave out how you threw a lamp through my front window

Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you
Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you

Even if I spend 2004 listening to morrisey in my car
I'm better off alone, than I would be in your arms
Even if I spend 2004 listening to morrisey in my car
I'm better off alone, than I would be in your arms
In your arms,
I'm better off alone (In your arms)

Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you
Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you

(Instrumental)

Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you
Just burn the photographs and bury all the pages that we knew
In short, this is a long goodbye to unexpecting you

To unexpecting you
To unexpecting you
(Just burn the photographs)
To unexpecting you
(Bury the memories)
To unexpecting you

Regrets And Romance

Now I see the truth in your eyes
This time it will last forever
Now I see the truth in your eyes
Tell me what you're looking for

To fall asleep with you would be heaven; for once this dream won’t be short lived
Take me with you; show me all life’s splendors
I've been waiting for life's last breath
I've been waiting for life's last breath

The world wouldn't turn without you; breathing its air, I’d take you anywhere
For once this is one of those dreams that I can spare, but you'd rather spare me

Now I see the truth in your eyes
This time it will be forever
I'll trust you, if you'll just trust me
Tell me what you’re looking for
Now I see the truth in your eyes
This time it will be forever
I'll trust you if you'll just trust me
If this isn't what you wanted, then tell me what is

And our roles have been filled, as they should with hidden messages in secret songs
This is my last breath of air.

I'll never miss it, the way you regret
And everything means everyone
There's something this far
That I have it all
You were the first one
To tell me I'm wrong
I'll never miss it, the way you regret
And everything means everyone
There's something this far
That I have it all
You were the first one
To tell me I'm wrong
For you are my life
your ------- promises
everything that's all you need
so live all your days, as if we have never met
tell me what are the words we say

Ride The Wings Of Pestilence

Hiding behind the Shadows
I'll be waiting in the dark
To drive this blade straight through your heart
I'll drag your body to the car
As blood races down my arm
I think everyone will wonder where you are (tonight)

I'll hide you in my walls
Your body will never be found
i'll wear your skin As a suit pretend to be you
Your friends will like you more then they used to.

Dear diary my teen-angst bullshi*t has a body count! (count!)
I believe its six going on to seven now!!! seven now!!!

I've been dreaming about you
In a pool of your own blood,
With your eyes gouged out
By the work of my thumbs,
The scent of your insides
From under the floor boards,
The perfect perfume
For settling the score

I'll hide you in my walls
Your body will never be found
I'll wear your skin as a suit, pretend to be you
your friends will like you more than they used to
pretend to be you, your friends will like you more than they used to

Secrets Don't Make Friends

This place is a bloodbath
And we won't be taken alive
We stand alone
Under fictitious skies

You were always my enemy and carefully crafted my demise [2x]
Our hearts beat strong under fictitious skies
You were always my enemy, you sucked the life out of me
Your words are deadly weapons
Killing me, destroying me
Your words are deadly weapons
Scatter my brains across the wall

You were my compass
Leading me to nowhere fast
Promises were lonely roads
I followed you down like a map

You were always my enemy and carefully crafted my demise [2x]
Our hearts beat strong under fictitious skies
You were always my enemy, you sucked the life out of me
Your words are deadly weapons
Killing me, destroying me
Your words are deadly weapons
Scatter my brains across the wall

f*ck you
Secrets don't make friends [3x]
Secrets don't make...

Your words are deadly weapons
Killing me, destroying me

[2x]
Your words are deadly weapons
Killing me, destroying me
Your words are deadly weapons
Scatter my brains across the wall

[repeating:] Secrets don't make friends

Shame Shame

If ignorance is bliss
Then eradicate my knowledge of my history
Now meaningless; left on my own
I looked for a long time
Crossed paths with your kind
But some things are better left alone

Wake up, lonely, hating my life, alone...
Wake up, lonely, hating my life

Shame, shame on me
(Come again)
Shame, shame on me
(Come again)

Just bodies
They bite they scratch they crawl at golden souls
Hue pictures you won't see or never know
Just bodies
These golden souls with pictures were deleted
Heaved into the ocean to drown with their brothers, their brothers

Wake up, lonely, hating my life
Their brothers, brothers...
Wake up, lonely, hating my life

Shame, shame on me
(Come again)
Shame, shame on me
(Come again)

Come again
Come again

Oh shame, shame on me
(Come again)
Shame, shame on me
(Come again)

Oh shame, shame on me
(Come again)
Shame, shame on me
(Come again)

Soliloquy

HELLO WORLD, suck the life right out of my voice and breathe it back into yourself

Such A Tragedy

You used to be my angel,
but now you're more like the devil.
Keep on talking darling,
you're bound to kill yourself...
with another thousand words.

And tears my eyes right out;
i'd rather see you without them anyway.[x2]

Take me away.[x2]
I don't know you anymore.[x2]

After tomorrow,
things just won't ever be the same again.
Keep on running darling,
you're bound to kill yourself with another thousand miles.

And tear my eyes right out.
I'd rather see you without them anyway.[x2]

Take me away.[x2]
I don't know you anymore.[x2]

And I know you will never
(rip my heart out) listen to me again.
You will never
(rip my heart out and leave it beating on the floor) listen to me again.

Take me away.
I don't know you anymore.[x2]

The Crows Are Coming For Us

How does it feel
To be ashamed
Of who you love
Well I know

You and me ought to hurry
Heaven in the glitter is for real
Real, real

Always knew
What you were
Always knew

You walk on water
You sing a lovely tune
You walk on water
You sing a lovely tune
You walk on water
You sing a lovely tune
You walk on water
You sing, sing

Always knew
What you were
Always knew

The crows are coming for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are coming for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are coming for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are coming for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are coming for us
Let them live, let them live

The crows are hungry for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are hungry for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are hungry for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are hungry for us
Let them live, let them live
The crows are hungry for us
Let them live, let them live

Always knew
What you were
Always knew
What you were
(The crows are coming for us)
Always knew
(The crows are hungry for us)
What you were
(The crows are coming for us)

The Latest Plague

What would you say?
If this blemished face,
This blemished face
With a crooked nose
Had a chance to say
Whatever he wanted,
From his blemished world
Of the unknown?

And would you give a f*ck
If all that you heard
Were nouns and verbs
Like shallow heartache?

The sound, of victory,
Blowing up your world, world

Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down, don't tell me,
Don't tell me where I don't belong
Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down, don't tell me
Don't tell me where I don't belong

Oh, I heard a sick, sad voice
Oh It was honesty, I turned to her and said
We need to be medicated
Oh, and you're the prescription
For a forced out vision
If you're with me
We'll send the critics to hell
With the sounds of our voices

Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down, don't tell me
Don't tell me where I don't belong
Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down,
Don't tell me where I don't belong

All you better-thans that fed us shi*t,
You'll be knocked on the floor
So don't you place your bets just yet
All you treasure sleepers feed on shi*t,
You'll be knocked on the floor
So don't you place...

Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down, don't tell me
Don't tell me where I don't belong
Fake faces everywhere I see
Fake people looking back at me
Sit down,
Don't tell me where I don't belong.

NO!
Rise, rise, rise to fall
I never cared, never cared to try until now
To find, home
The distance grows
as the ground approaches

Faith, at least in the form of gravity
keeps me low at the ladder
Time to crawl to the salty hill that fills my life

Rise, rise, rise to fall
I never cared, never cared to try until now
To find, home
The distance grows
as the ground approaches

NO!
Rise, rise, rise to fall
I never cared, never cared to try until now
To find, home
The distance grows
as the ground approaches

RISE, RISE, RISE TO FALL!
RISE, RISE, RISE TO FALL!

Hello ladies and gentlemen.
i'm glad you've graced me with your presence.
you're in time to see me wrestle with my conscience
staring into the si-si-si-silence.
you see i came to save the stage.
i hope i'm not too late.
Passion called from back behind the curtain screaming
"Sonny, this is urgent!
Fill these 50 voices with a purpose
but don't just give it away.
Inspiration isn't cheap these days.
You better make them earn it."

You... better..
make them earn it!
Make them earn it!
You...better...
make them earn it!
Make them earn it!

Ultimatums For Egos

Something I never wanted was your company, but you still came running back here anyway.
And the truth is that I’ll never tell you anything
because every time I try my words come out and kill me quick.
Crush my dreams I’ll fade away.
Crush my dreams I’ll fade away.
As long as what you wanted was for me to be miserable,
I’m breaking down everyday, the sky is a new shade of grey.
Trying to say you’re sorry when these were you intentions; cant take back what you’ve said.
I’ll never forgive, I’ll never forget(cross my heart)
The last thing that I needed was your sympathy, but you still showed it to me anyway.
You live for your excuses, and you should know by now
that every time you try your words come out and kill you quick.
Crush my dreams I’ll fade away.
Crush my dreams I’ll fade away.
As long as what you wanted was for me to be miserable,
I’m breaking down everyday, the sky is a new shade of grey.
Trying to say your sorry when these were you intentions; can’t take back what you’ve said.
I’ll never forgive, I’ll never forget(I’ll never)
Why don’t you throw away everything to gain nothing at all
but one less person who cares if you end up dead....I’ll just forget

I can’t eat anything
without shoving my hands down my throat
And I refuse to leave the world without smearing on makeup
With my hair blinding my eyes
Oh, blinding my eyes

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen my own eyes
Or the color of my skin
Do you know what it’s like to feel ugly all the time?

I stretched myself across the world
Pushing my limits
For your entertainment and
You had the nerve
To call out my weaknesses
To drag me through the dirt

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen my own eyes
Or the color of my skin
Do you know what it’s like to feel ugly all the time?

Ooh
I’m staring at the mirror
Looking back at the person I hate

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen my own eyes
Or the color of my skin
Do you know what it’s like….

Waves Goodbye

There's an ocean out my window
There's beauty in its tears
There's an ocean out my window
It's crashing in my ears

Oh sea, your shelter
You dance between my toes
When I feel like I can't move forward
You carry me like a father

Breathing is the hardest thing I do
I'm not the only person in the room
It's hard for me, to feel like I'm perfect

When Flying Feels Like Falling

[x2]
It's days like these, that make me feel,
like I want to bleed through my heart again.
It's days like these, that make me feel,
like I might as well be on my own again.
I take back everything I said, about loving you.
Now that you've left me on the ground,
I can fly away to someone new.
Don't pretend like I don't know you're untrue.
I never meant to bring you
(down)
Nothing but good
(intentions)
I never meant to bring you
(down)

[x2]
Take it back,
(Take it back)
This time.
(This time)
I'll just move on.
I'll just move on.

[x3]
Take my heart,
(Take my heart)
Make it gray,
(Make it gray)
I'll never forget.

World War Me

YOU!...
YOU!...

Let's starve down to the bone, we're looking better boney
Who needs figure anyway?
Stay with me, stay with me,
So I can dig my nails deep in your cave

It feels better now without control, oh girl,
you look better blurry angel
Why do we need to be sanitary
when the world's so filthy anyway?

Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Poor unfortunate child
I can't stop running away

I'm a one life, hopeless dirty animal baby
And I bow down to my feeble brain
Aberrated, primitive
Stay with me, stay with me

No food for weeks I've never felt better
We look better famished girl
Hightail to our lush escape,
And leave our filthy world away

Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Poor unfortunate child
I can't stop running away

I'm on the verge of self destruction
Suffering because of my selfish vices
I'm on the verge of self destruction
Suffering because I gave up on myself and everyone

Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Oh poor me, oh poor you, ohooooo ohooooo ohooooo
Poor unfortunate child,
I can't stop running away
Poor unfortunate child,
I can't stop running away

I have finally made up my mind.  I am going to attend the Colorado School of Mines and play football.  I had offers to play at the Air Force Academy, West Point, Colorado State, New Mexico State, and some of the Ivy League schools but I'm a  hometown boy and want to stay close to the family.  Someday you might hear about me on the news(not b/c i killed myself so don't even think that).

CALGARY NAMED HOST CITY FOR SLAM CITY JAM 2006 SKATEBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FESTIVAL

…longest-running skateboarding event in North America to be held in Calgary August 25-27, 2006 with more than 150 of the world’s  top professionals on tap

VANCOUVER
(Thursday, February 16, 2006) – After 12 years of building its reputation in Vancouver as one of the world’s most popular skateboarding events, the Slam City Jam has named Calgary as its official host city for 2006.

The Slam City Jam 2006, the North American Skateboarding Championships, will be held August 25-27 in Calgary.

Venue details and information on the corporate and community partners who will team up to present the longest-running skateboarding event in North America will be formally announced in March.  It will mark the first time in the history of the event, a stalwart on the World Cup of Skateboarding international tour, that it has not been held in Vancouver.

“Our concern in not being able to continue our annual tradition in Vancouver is more than balanced by the great excitement surrounding the welcome we’re receiving in Calgary,” said Kleo Landucci, President of the Slam City Jam, which made its debut in Vancouver in 1994.  “Not being in Vancouver for the first time in our event’s history will be a big change for us at many levels, but we’re very pleased to be able to keep Slam City Jam in Western Canada and stage it in a great “can do” Canadian city like Calgary.”

Landucci explained that an interest in expanding the event to other provinces was elevated as a priority given problems the event faced in association with venue upgrades in Vancouver in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.  The unavailability of suitable indoor venues in Vancouver this year pushed the move up to 2006.  Calgary won the rights to host Slam City Jam on the basis of its outstanding tradition of supporting amateur, professional and Olympic sports.

“Not only is Calgary one of the country’s hottest skateboarding markets – and getting hotter all the time with some of Canada’s best new skate park facilities – it is a proven sports and entertainment capital as home of the world-famous Calgary Stampede and the 1988 Winter Olympic Games,” said Landucci, who noted the city is also famous for its support of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League and the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

“Our long-term event plan always provided for the possibility of promoting skateboarding throughout Western Canada by inviting cities such as Calgary and Edmonton to bid to host Slam City Jam,” said Landucci.  “In fact, we have been looking for ways to contribute to the growth of skateboarding in other provinces and have watched the tremendous rise of the sport in Alberta in recent years.  Olympic preparations and the inability for us to book dates at suitable Vancouver venues made us consider making the move this year and, fortunately, in Calgary, we have a dynamic host city ready to rock with us in August.”

Landucci said support of Slam’s long-standing commitment to not only showcasing the best in professional skateboarding but to promoting the sport at all levels in the community made the difference in selecting Calgary as official host city for 2006.

“The reception by those who share our vision and who will be working with us to put on the best skateboarding event in Canada has been fantastic!” said Landucci, a 28-year-old Vancouver business executive who developed a passion for skateboarding in the early 1990s.

Venue and event details will be presented in March but Landucci indicated Slam organizers would be responding to resounding fan feedback from last year’s event at BC Place – a 55,000 seat facility that is home of the BC Lions of the CFL and served as site of the extremely successful 2005 Grey Cup.  Slam City Jam fan surveys last summer indicated a strong preference for a more intimate venue in the capacity range of 7,500 to 20,000 that is the standard for most of the top tier events on the World Cup of Skateboarding and other Action Sports festivals.  The X Games presented by ESPN are held, for example, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

“Through the evolution of Slam City Jam, Vancouver and the west coast have become hotbeds for skateboarding and we acknowledge that the event wouldn’t have grown to what it is today without the support of the British Columbia skateboarding community and our Slam fans from throughout the province and the Pacific Northwest,” said Landucci.  “We’re stoked that a strong west coast flavour will continue in that we’ll have many of the top professionals from B.C. on hand in Calgary.  We’re proud of the B.C. athletes who are making their mark on the sport internationally and we are looking forward to having them with us in Calgary this year.”

Ticket information will be released when the venue and corporate and community partnerships are formally unveiled in March.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kobe Bryant kept shooting, from all over the court and from every angle.

The Los Angeles Lakers' star scored a staggering 81 points Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors in a 122-104 win. Only Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game stands ahead of him.

"It just happened, man" Bryant said. "It really hasn't, like, set in for me. It's about the 'W,' that's why I turned it on. It turned into something special.

"To sit here and say I grasp what happened, that would be lying. Not even in my dreams."

The NBA's leading scorer left to a standing ovation with 4.2 seconds remaining, having shot 28-of-46 from the floor, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range and 18-of-20 from the foul line.

With the fans at Staples Center chanting "MVP! MVP!" Bryant made two free throws with 43.4 seconds remaining for his final points. He scored 27 points in the third quarter, 28 in the fourth.

"It feels great to put on a great show here," he said.

Chamberlain scored 100 points for Philadelphia against the New York Knicks at Hershey, Pa., on March 2, 1962, making 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the foul line while playing all 48 minutes.

Chamberlain had 59 points in the second half - the only player with more points in a half than Bryant's 55 after halftime in this game.

Chamberlain's second-highest total was 78 against the Lakers in three overtimes on Dec. 8, 1961.

Elgin Baylor held the previous franchise record of 71 points at New York on Nov. 15, 1960. Lakers assistant Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, saw that game, too.

"Elgin's game was an incredible performance, also. I don't think there's any comparison. Elgin did it without 3-point lines. His game was attacking the hoop and hitting jumpers inside 20 feet. Kobe's range is unreal, and he does it his way," Abdul-Jabbar said.

"It was a real treat. His ability to shoot from long range and also attack the hoop, split the defense and get in close for opportunities near the basket is unique. He's made a niche for himself and he deserves it."

Michael Jordan's career high was 69 points, and only four players had ever scored more than 70 - Chamberlain, Baylor, David Thompson and David Robinson.

The 27-year-old Bryant made it five. His previous career high was 62 points during a 112-90 victory over Dallas last month - he sat out the fourth quarter because of the one-sided nature of the game.

"I was just determined. I was just locked in, tuned into what was going on out there," Bryant said. "These points tonight mattered. We needed them. The points I put in the basket were instrumental. It means a lot more."

Bryant raised his scoring average to an NBA-leading 35.9 points this season.

"I never imagined I would see history like that," said Devean George, a teammate of Bryant's with the Lakers for 6 1/2 seasons. "I can't tell you where that came from. He just kept attacking, attacking, attacking - every time he got the ball."

Bryant played nearly 42 minutes, going the entire second half until being lifted by coach Phil Jackson.

Jackson coached Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to six championships in the 1990s and the Lakers, with Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, to three more titles, from 2000-02.

"That was something to behold," Jackson said. "It was another level. I've seen some remarkable games, but I've never seen one like that before."

Bryant's performance came on the same night the NBA had its highest-scoring game in 11 years when Seattle beat Phoenix 152-149 in two overtimes. The last 300-point game in the league came when Dallas beat Houston 156-147 in two overtimes on April 11, 1995, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

"You're sitting and watching, and it's like a miracle unfolding in front of your eyes and you can't accept it," Lakers owner Jerry Buss said. "Somehow, the brain won't work. The easiest way to look at it is everybody remembers every 50-point game they ever saw. He had 55 in the second half."

Lamar Odom's 3-pointer with 7:04 remaining gave the Lakers a 100-93 lead, and Bryant scored 30 seconds later to give him 61 points and his team a nine-point advantage. The Raptors didn't pose a serious threat after that.

Bryant scored all but 15 of the Lakers' 42 points in the third quarter, shooting 11-of-15 including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Six of his points came during a 12-0 run to finish the period, giving Los Angeles a 91-85 lead.

The Lakers outscored the Raptors 38-14 to finish the third quarter to go ahead for good. They trailed by as many as 18 points early in the period, angering Bryant.

"He was ticked off," Odom said.

When asked what Bryant said at that stage, Odom replied: "Nothing. That's when it's bad."

Bryant scored 51 points after the Raptors took a 71-53 lead. It was 63-49 at halftime.

"The thing about him that is most amazing is that he is relentless," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "We played man-to-man, box-in-one and zone. We tried to put smaller guys on him to deny him the ball.

"I saw that game he had against Dallas where he scored 62, what more can you say?"

Smush Parker added 13 points and Chris Mihm had 12 points and six rebounds for the Lakers.

Mike James led Toronto with 26 points and 10 assists. Chris Bosh added 18 points and eight rebounds and Jalen Rose scored 17 points for the Raptors.

Notes

Bryant scored a season-low 11 points in the Lakers' 102-91 victory over the Raptors in Toronto last month. He had 14 in the first quarter of this game. ... Bryant has led the Lakers in scoring in the last 21 games in which he's played. He entered with an NBA-leading 34.8-point average, and is averaging 45.5 points in 10 games since sitting out a two-game suspension. ... Toronto C Rafael Araujo, who has made 30 starts this season, missed his second straight game and third of the season because of a sore right shoulder. ... Bryant made his first five foul shots before missing late in the second quarter, snapping his streak of consecutive made free throws at 62. Michael Williams made an NBA-record 93 straight for Minnesota in 1993. ... Bryant received a technical foul with 10:44 left - shortly after being accidentally struck above the right eye.

GUYS I AM GOING TO PRINCETON THIS IS AN ARTICLE ON ME ON MY STATES PAPER yup because I was rated number 1 football player in washington state I dunno why but I am but if you like me then read this guys!!!

Arlington QB Gunter commits to Princeton: Arlington High quarterback Brandon Gunter will play football at Princeton University. The first-team All-Wesco North player received a full-ride scholarship offer to Eastern Washington but he said he couldn't pass up a chance to attend the revered Ivy League school, which does not offer athletic scholarships.

"I just liked the chance to get that kind of education," Gunter said. "It's a great school to be a part of."

The 6-2, 180-pound Gunter, who has a 3.93 grade-point average, will play quarterback at Princeton. Eastern wanted him to play defensive safety or wide receiver.

"It's nice to have this off my chest," he said. "My last few years of high school have been dedicated to preparing myself for this."

Arlington coach John Boitano said he will miss Gunter, who helped the Eagles go 7-3 this season after they finished 2-8 in 2003. "He meant a lot," Boitano said, "because he kind of epitomized this year."

Added Boitano, Gunter is "a nice kid, a good leader and (he) worked hard."

wowzers. this entry might be long. hmm lets see i left off at the game where i scored!!! ((YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!! like off of Napolean Dynamite)) then i left for our league game against East Valley. i was NOT ready for this game.. i was so tired! and i was gonna put a nap in before it but ilost track of time.. and i was getting picked up for it sooner than i thought. so then we get to u high and then we all get onto the bus.. haha cool kids sit in the BACK of the bus. haha so thats where i went smooth eh? yea and we were all talking.. haha found out that ally and i are SUPER preps. lol. then we get to east valley.. they had a nice field but i was really bummed coz i guess i was expecting another game like the night before.. our home game we played on the football field ((thats RIGHT football playas.. we play on the SAME field as you do.. same SIZE and everything.)) and it was under the lights with an announcer.. and oh man it was perfect. but then east valley it was just a nice field. thats it. but ne ways.. i started again as left mid.. gosh i was getting out ran tho.. wow i did so bad.. then i got taken out then we scored i think and then i got put back in and it was all dandy.. then i got taken out then i played inside mid the next half.. i had an assist!! i had an assist to amanda! and hey! an assist is as good as a goal any day right? well yes. anyways we shut them out.. we fricken SPANKED them.. final score 4-0. and amanda scored 2 of the goals.. so she was voted mvp. oh yea.. haley and i were voted mvp for the first game. then we all piled into the bus.. and OMG it stunk SOOOO BAD. wow.. then we gave ally and i a ride home.. and my mom was complaining how much it stunk..then i went home and showered really really quick! i did one of my EXCELLENT in n outs for showering.. haha i got entirely ready in less than 20 mins.. then i had to SHOVEL my dinner... in like 5 mins.

THEN, i went to jake's house. the guys were having poker night tonight. oh lord was THAT the boringest thing i have ever been too. they wouldn't even let me PLAY... i was complaning the WHOLE time and kept asking if i could invite jenna over so i wouldnt be bored. but they said no. then jake started getting fed up and threw me in his pool and told me to just go swimming. so since i was already in the pool i didnt argue! lol. this lasted for about a minute. then i just went up in jakes room and played dress up in his clothes. i took a pair of his pants because they were actually really cute. except they were a little big in the waist..hah! but they're comfy! :) oh and i also cleaned his room because it was discusting. what would he do with out me!? haha! eventually i just got too bored for words and i left. i dont think he noticed it though. haha! i then went to target to get my water...then stopped by stefano's to say hi... kallee was there.... they were all by there lonesome...weird.....WONDER WHAT WENT ON THERE... haha! sike, ew, no..wRonG! YEAH. then i took a dounut and went home.

Halloweentown high was on tonight. oh man. i love it. LOVE IT.
