*More about Montreal: Montreal is known for its European flavor, it’s five thousand plus; bars, night clubs and restaurants, it’s relatively young drinking age (18yrs old), it’s relatively late “last call” 3am, it’s beautiful women, hot summer’s & great street skate spots.

With Year 3 of ZooYork’s Am Getting Paid coming to a close, we are very proud to look back on such a special event with so many great skateboarders. Adding the extra day to the event helped make the contest run smooth and welcomed more amateurs to battle it out for the $15,000 U.S. total prize.

Friday was a very important night for the Underworld skate team, where they had their world premiere for Yesterday’s Future, a video that they have been working on for the last few years. The place was packed, the drinks were full and the skating was next level. For more info and to view the teaser go to www.yesterdaysfuturevideo.com

Saturday was day 2 of the contest and displayed some of the best skateboarding all weekend. Magnus Hanson and Nick Merlino were having fun all day and were destroying all obstacles at South Parc. Jordan Hoffart and Keegan Sauder were some of the smoothest and most powerful skateboarders at the contest. Lastly, Chazz Ortiz blew the crowd away with his impressive skills, consistency, and courage… did we mention he is only 12 years old!

Saturday night was the Am’s getting laid party and the Wu Tang’s legendary member Raekwon was headlining. With over 300 people trying to get in to this sold out private party the energy was at an all time high. People chanted the choruses while chef Raekwon ripped the lyrics.

Sunday was the final day of the event and it was time to seperate the men from the boys. Micky Papa was leading throughout the whole semi finals with tricks such as kickflip backside smiths and switch treflips down the stairs. But when the finals came around it was Ryan Decenzo hailing from Vancouver, Canada that took first place position and the hefty cheque home. He had flawless runs all weekend, mixing techness with smoothness on a consistent basis run after run. Taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively were local Antoine Asselin, and Detroit’s Dustin Blauvelt. It would be impossible to name other notables over the weekend since the skating was at such a high level.

Proceeding the contest, Solo Mobile held the best trick on four obstacles. Nick Merlino and Dustin Blauvelt were the only hitting the big rail. With a bunch of skateboarders all busting out and getting paid it was Manny Santiago who took home the most money with a huge bag of tricks. Am Getting Paid is an international amateur skateboard event held every year and its mission is to continue to support and promote young amateur skateboarders to the rest of the world. We would like to thank all the skateboarders, sponsors, and parents. For more info and to check out the teaser for this weekends festivities please visit www.amgettingpaid.com, the full length DVD will release in January.

For immediate release

August 15th, 2006 The "Zoo York’s Am Getting Paid" skateboard contest is proud to announce the Chef Raekwon from New York's legendary WU TANG CLAN has just been confirmed as the main act for the infamous "Am Getting Laid" after party.  "The Wu Tang clan has such a strong attachment in the skateboard world and countless tracks are featured in so many skateboard videos” explains contest promoter, Alex Bastide.

"Never appearing in Montreal, it was a no brainer for this legendary MC to play our after-party. Also recently added to the Saturday night lineup, Montreal's up and coming mash-up DJ's,Team Canada.

Born in Staten Island, NY, and raised in the park hill projects, Raekwon is presently one of the most popular Wu-Tang Clan members in the game. Raekwon may not have achieved the solo stardom of his fellow Wu-Tang Clan mates Method Man or Ol' Dirty Bastard, but along with Genius/GZA and frequent partner Ghostface Killah, he's done some of the most inventive, critically acclaimed work outside the confines of the group. Also nicknamed the Chef (because he's "cookin' up some marvelous sh*t to get your mouth watering"), Raekwon joined the Staten Island, NY-based Wu-Tang collective in the early '90s and played an important role on their groundbreaking late-1993 debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

Following his 1994 debut single, "Heaven and Hell," his own solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, appeared in 1995; while it didn't sell on the level of Method Man's Tical, singles like "Ice Cream" and "Criminology" earned him a strong reputation in the hip-hop underground. Moreover, the album received near-unanimous critical praise for its evocative, image-rich storytelling and cinematic Mafia obsession.

The " Zoo York’s Am Getting Paid" is an international skateboard contest in its 3rd year running.  Held on September 22nd through the 24th, this years total purse is at a whopping $15,000 USD.  This years contest is scheduled to be the biggest Eastern amateur contest to date with over 200 riders participating from around the world.

The " Zoo York’s Am Getting Laid" after-party is on Saturday, September 23rd, doors open at 10pm.

This will be a weekend not to miss!

The tickets are available at: Underworld, Off the Hook, Universe, Empire, South Parc, Juste pour Rire, Clubzone.com and Admission

'Straight up, out of the almost 15 years of us doing shows, this is probably the top 3' -GMAN.

Kid Capri has 15 crates of real vinyl and will go through every record as he is one of the quickest mixers in the business. You will not want to miss this legend in this once in a lifetime setting.

"Unlike rap acts that just walk from one side of the stage to the other in concert. I'm a total crowd-hyping entertainer. That means doin' it 110% every time I hit the stage. I want the people out of their seats, feeling me, feeling the music. That's the only way I do it"  This energy is what has earned Kid Capri his title, as the most relentless, most relied upon to rock a party, most dynamic and larger-than-life DJ in the history of hip hop. He has sruvived every era of hip hop and emerged each time with a renewed sense of purpose and something new to contribute to the culture. From the very beginning, Kid studied a craft that had never before been given recognition or even considered a legitimate skill. yet Kid Capri's skills go far beyond the spinning wheel of the turntable.

Kid has far exceeded the expectations of his peers, critics and fans. His lvoe for and careful nurturing of his immense talents has enabled him to represent the music industry in general, but Hip-Hop music in particular, with class and individuality and an intensity unmatched in the music industry www.kidcapri.com.    I had a sick trip to Panama with Ryan Decenzo, Hagen Mitchell, Alex Rothbauer, Richard Sarrizzan, and Swell. We skated alot of really cool and Ghetto spots. SBC will be doing a story on it pretty soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Also been skating this new really fun bowl in Burnaby. i guess they ripped out the old one at the aging Confederation skatepark and replaced it with a 4.5 foot deep boomarang shaped little dealy. really fun!

Just got back from Costa Rica with my wife. good times indeed. Lots of swimming in the Caribean and beers for sure. We found a little skatepark in the middle of nowhere and shralped it for a few days with a bunch of barefoot kids.
Been skating alot lately despite all the wet weather. Undergrounds mostly and a secret covered miniramp. Aaron Sheare, the Riv, and i have also been working hard on the upcoming Natural Koncept video. its gonna be called "Dysfunctional Family". fitting name for our team.
I recently took up the Guitar. sick! can't get enough of it. it keeps me going when i can't skate.

Wow, another summer has come and gone. this was a full one for me.  Two trips to the infamous ordas island skate park.  camping a few miles from the park. it has got to be one of my alltime favprite places to skate.  i also spent alot of time on the island skating and doing some demos. Vancouver island rules. it has some of the best scenes and underground rulers. long live courtney. Had a great trip down to san diego. skated some backyard pools with the sector 9 boys and saw a sick Hank III / Flogging Molly show. and , oh yeah!, i got married. it was a sick shindig in Port Albernie with mini ramps and everything.  check the current SBC for a little tidbit on what went down.  Now i am just working on getting footy for the new Natural Koncept movie.

well i had a ripping summer and fall. in june i took a bunch of sick skaters around B.C., Alberta, and Saskatewan on demo tour. it was a little stressful at times but we pulled through with a lot of good times.
i also just got back from a sick trip to Hawaii. the boys at Natural Koncept skateboards put us up and really looked after us. Josh Evin and Hagen Mitchel both came with me. Josh really ripped it up on his board and the bottle. it was definatly one of the funner trips i went on. there is a really cool skate scene over there. peace

I was readin SBC Skateboarder (late summer 2004 issue) at work today, and they were talkin about Federations of sk8ers, and keeping it underground, and such. Lots of people in the mag were bitchin about how sk8in should be kept solely for the hardest of the hardcore, an equal amount of people were bitchin about how it should be in the olympics, and how the corporate side could help it. As I was reading I noticed, the people bitchin the most don't even give a f*ck about sk8in! They are all theese huge pros that are making money off the sh*t, and sayin how it should stay underground....that dont seem to underground to me! The other side was corporate companies that want to make money off it, and essentially "sell" it like ne other sport.....doesnt seem too much like sk8in. Whether Sk8in becomes an Olympic sport or not, I dont think neone shoudl trully care! I mean sure, its a hard sport, that takes skill, talent, and dedication, and yeah maybe puttin it in the Olympics will take the essence of sk8in being a rebel thing away.I say that if you sk8 to get famous, its for the wrong reason. If you sk8 to be a rebel in society, its for the wrong reason. I say that if you sk8 to make yourself feel good, then those are the only people who should be sk8in, and honestly, I doubt those people will care what a bunch of corporate machines do with sk8in, cuz I know myself, personally, will be happy as long as I have my sk8 under me. Sk8 for yourselves!
