Pro And Am Q&A: Sunday, September 16, 2007

Q&A With Greg Brewer
with Vaughn Whynot

Greg Brewer….where the hell have you been. Last time I saw you, you where throwing down kick melons on the 2way in Lunenburg at my comp... Well let’s do this Q&A so I can find out what you have been up too.

VW - State your name, Age, hometown, sponsors, if you’re pro or am?

GB - I'm Greg Brewer I'm 21 years old and my sponsors are Real Skateboards, Spitfire Wheels, Thunder Trucks, and Vans Shoes.

VW - So Mr. Brewer, how are your new sponsors treating you…and do you miss the east coast…are we east coast…I didn’t do well in geo?

GB - ha-ha oh yes its East alright.  The sponsors are pretty kick-ass right now.  They've all been super nice.  I just got back from a trip to the states with Vans for an article in Concrete so I'm pretty hyped on that.

VW - Skateboard Set-up right now?

GB - Deck- Real 8 and 1/4.  52 mm Spitfire Wheels. Reds Bearings, 147 Thunders Trucks.

VW - Your Part In “Homegrown Slightly lit Video”, which was your fav places to skate in your part and out of everyone else in that video…who did you get more pumped off of?

GB - That’s a tough one.  Montreal and Toronto are both awesome cities but I think Toronto was pretty fun.  I was super pumped off all the guys we were there with.  I'd never really met any of the boys until then so it was really fun to get to meet them for a trip like that.  Everyone was awesome on that trip for sure.

VW - Skate Video You Can’t wait to see?

GB - The Fallen Video, Lakai if it ever comes out.  A new flip video would be rad too but I don't know if they're even doing one right now.

VW - What 1 trick your love doing these days and well hate even trying?

GB - Hardflips.

VW - Non-Skateboard Sponsor You Wish You Had?

GB - Alexander Keith’s or Wendy's.

VW - One thing to tell kids about skateboarding…and reason why you’re still doing it?

GB - Just have fun doing it mainly.  It's the best way to mellow out and meet new people.  If you’re having a good time that’s all that matters and people will see that.

VW - This is one question I had to ask because it’s always on my mind…what are your views on this helmet law in Canada

GB - shi*tTY!!!  If I hit my head it's my own fault.  Someone could slip on ice or trip off a curb and hit there head but you don't need helmets to walk on an icy sidewalk.  I hope.

VW - One trick you wish you had on lock down?

GB - Switch three flips.

VW - Craziest road trip/demo/skate sesh?

GB - The Homegrown one was fun and the Vans one I just got back from.  But when a bunch of us from Fredericton and Moncton went to Calgary and ended up getting to skate in Slam City Jam.  That was pretty much the funniest thing ever!

VW - Am and Pro you’re pumped of?

GB - Appleyard, Reynolds, Rowley.

VW - Last scrape you were in?

GB - I try to stay out of trouble, but I almost went in the police patty wagon the other day for trying to throw a giant road barrier over a fence ha-ha.  As soon as I herd the brakes of the truck the officer had my face up against the side of the truck and my arm wrenched around my back ha-ha.  Luckily some randoms saved me and told the cop that a car had just ran into the barrier and they saw me fixing it.  He told them that they could fit in the truck too and better leave now.  So they walked away.  I ended up talking my way out of it because I had New Brunswick ID and I was “Just visiting for 3 days."  Then he was cool with it.  He actually said this stupid line that sounded like some sort of slogan ha-ha.  “You enjoy Vancouver.  You do not destroy it!"

VW - Song you’re real into these days.

GB - I dunno I like to keep a good mix of everything.

VW - So G-brew when you coming down to Lunenburg way. We need some beer and you need to destroy the Lbc Park, while I am drunk and watch…hope to hear form you soon...and maybe see you skate.

GB - Hopefully I'll be in New Brunswick around Christmas time.  Maybe next summer I'll make a trip again and get to check the new Halifax Park out and come down to Lunenburg and see all the boys.

Lata.  Peace!

Q and A with Bruce Treby

20 Questions with Bruce Treby

Questions Asked By Vaughn Whynot

Answers by Bruce Treby

Photos by Scott McClellan

State Your Name, Age & current Location you are at?

Bruce Treby, 21, and I live in Little Harbour, NS

How’s she going?

Things are going great! I’m healthy, back in school and skating as much as I can when the weather is good. It’s been raining for almost a month straight now.

So Bruce when you were a kid, what made you start skaten?

I started skating when I was in grade 7 cause I seen a few older guys doing it and it looked fun. I tried it once and was hooked!

Who did you look up to when growing up (pros, People)?

I mostly looked up to the local guys but for pros I really like Deawon Song and Jamie Thomas

So who are your sponsors these days…and how did this happen, where you a video-tape kid or did they find you?

I ride for Homegrown Skateboards and Ipath Footwear.  Homegrown just kinda found me and I got hooked up with Ipath after “The Burning Whale Project” was released.

It must have been fun filming parts for the Homegrown Video. Do you have an interesting story from the whole time filming?

Yeah, I had a great time filming. I’d say the most interesting story from the whole thing is that I was working 6 days a week and filming only after work and on Sundays. It made it interesting, especially when we had to drive a few hours to some spots. All in all it was a great time!

Hey Treby, do you mind me calling you Treby; do you have any hobbies besides skating?

Everyone calls me Treby, even my girlfriend does too! When I’m not skating I’m usually snowboarding or causing trouble for someone.

What are you views on the harassment skater get from, police, bikers/bladders and local mouths? Have you ever encountered arguments or fight because of being a skater?

I’m so sick of getting razzed and harassed by the police and other “authority figures”. I mean sure their doing a job but this whole helmet law thing has gone too far. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been kicked out of spots as soon as I roll up. I haven’t gotten in a fight but there have been some close calls.

Do you still believe skaten is about roots or is it something else these days?

I like to think skating is about roots but every little kid always asks who you’re sponsored by or if you’re pro or am and how could they get sponsored. I think a lot of kids are skating for the wrong reasons these days.

So anything coming up these days with you (mags, videos, new product) or you keeping low?

I’ve been keeping it pretty low key this year. It was a pretty rough one for injuries.

I saw that footy of your bail….your a real trooper for getting back into the scene, I also heard you where more worried for your tattoo then your body, what was you thinking?

That was a rough little patch for me but I’m good to go now. Yeah I didn’t realize how serious it was until after the surgery but your right. I was worried bout my tattoo. I went back to the rail and cut the kink off to keep it for a trophy and decided to try it again and slammed on my face. Lost a tooth and knocked myself clean out. I didn’t know who anyone was or what happened for a good 10 or 15 minutes. Needless to say I’m not going back…lol

Here are a few simple questions, Fav AM this year?

Ryan Decenzo

Fav Pro?

Jereme Rogers, He’s so well rounded on everything.

Last Skate Video you watched?

DVS skate more

Last Mag you read or book?

I haven’t had time for anything but school work….

Biggest Fear?

Not scared anymore. I already lost a tooth skating…might get one for Christmas though!

Trick you’re stoked on? Trick your trying to get down?

Pretty much anything on a rail. And I’ve been trying to get tre flips…..

Saying over used?

Do you think Skate Style is Important, and is this g-unit and/or emo getting out of hand?

Thanks for your time…hope to see you kick'in around the area around here. Any last words or props for anyone? P.S. Did you see the Hali-Park, She’s looking sexy.

Thanks to Jesse at Homegrown, Shayne and Mike at S & J for the Ipath gear, Brad Macdonald, Travis Francis, Scott Maclellan and everyone else I’ve forgotten you know who you are.

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car
he's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
the other on my heart
i look around, turn the radio down
he says baby is something wrong?
i say nothing i was just thinking how we don't have a song
and he says...

CHORUS
our song is the slamming screen door,
sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
when you're on the phone and you talk real slow
cause it's late and your mama don't know
our song is the way you laugh
the first date "man, i didn't kiss her, but i should have"
and when i got home...before i said amen
asking god if he could play it again

"Bring Me To Life"
how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead

all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)

"Far Away"
This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know, you know, you know

I love you
I've loved you all along
I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
And you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of Hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything, but I won't give up
'Cause you know, you know, you know

That I love you
I loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
And you'd never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

So far away
So far away
Far away for far too long
So far away
So far away
Far away for far too long

But you know, you know, you know
I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
I love you
I loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me,and never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me never let me go

Keep breathing
Hold on to me, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me, never let me go

"Never Too Late"

This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don't belong
Who would have guessed it
I will not leave alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late
It's never too late

Even if I say
It'll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it all around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late

No one will ever see
This side reflected
And if there's something wrong
Who would have guessed it
And I have left alone
Everything that I own
To make you feel like
It's not too late
It's never too late

Even if I say
It'll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it all around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late

The world we knew
Won't come back
The time we've lost
Can't get back
The life we had
Won't be ours again

This world will never be
What I expected
And if I don't belong

Even if I say
It'll be alright
Still I hear you say
You want to end your life
Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it all around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late
Maybe we'll turn it all around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late (It's never too late)
It's not too late
It's never too late

"Over You"
Now that it's all said and done,
I can't believe you were the one
To build me up and tear me down,
Like an old abandoned house.
What you said when you left
Just left me cold and out of breath.
I fell too far, was in way too deep.
Guess I let you get the best of me.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together.
'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

You took a hammer to these walls,
Dragged the memories down the hall,
Packed your bags and walked away.
There was nothing I could say.
And when you slammed the front door shut,
A lot of others opened up,
So did my eyes so I could see
That you never were the best for me.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together.
'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together.
Well I'm putting my heart back together,
'Cause I got over you.
Well I got over you.
I got over you.
'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

He was a boy,
She was a a girl,
Can't I make it any more obvious,
He was a punk,
She did ballet,
What more can I say.

He wanted her,
Shed never tell, secretly she wanted him as well,
But all of her friends,
Stuck up their nose,
They had a problem with his baggy clothes.

He was a skater boy,
She said see you later boy
He wasnt good enough for her,
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth.

5 years from now,
She sits at home,
Feeding the baby shes all alone,
She turns on tv,
Guess who she sees,
Skater boy rockin on mtv!!,
She calls up her friends,
They already know,
And theyve all got
Tickets to see his show,
She tags along,
Stands in the crowd,
Looks up at the man that she turned down.

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasnt good enough for her,
Now hes a super star
Slamming on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what hes worth?

He was a skater boy,
She said see you later boy,
He wasnt good enough for her,
Now hes a super star ,
Slamming on his guitar ,
Does your pretty face see what hes worth?
(music)
Sorry girl but you missed out,
Well tough luck that boys mine now,
We are more than just good friends,
This is how the story ends,
Too bad that you couldnt see,
See the man that boy could be,
There is more than meets the eye,
I see the soul that is inside.

Hes just a boy,
And Im just a girl,
Can I make it any more obvious,
We are in love,
Havent you heard?
How we rock each others world!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sing 2x)
Im with the skater boy,
I said see you later boy,
Ill be back stage after the show,
Ill be at the studio,
Singing the song we wrote,
About a girl you used to know.

Sorry about the title, i was listening to the Used's poetic tragedy ,that song owns. But seriously thats not why im here ( cyrus thats not why you're here ) .This really isn't a another entry ,it's like a sequal to the last one ,or a prequal i dont know lol.but seriously back to skateboarding ( get back to skateboarding Cyrus ) ,skateboarding is like a open window to escape everything thats going on in your life ( most of the time you're escaping to go skate ).like when you want to get away you know, skateboarding is like a shrink that you can pop the living shi*t out of.Have you ever felt like all four walls were closing in and you didn't know what to do ,so you grabbed your board, ignored the screaming around you ,ignored the fighting ,ignored everything that you just couldn't take anymore and just ran out the door with your board ,slamming the door behind you.And skating in this mood really isn't the best, but it gets rid of everything, half the time you're bailing ,going for things you know you cant make, you're not really caring how you look and whos around you, what they think of you or the danger you might be in.while you're skating in this mood one the most hardcore song you ever heard starts playing in your head, and like your emotions are sort of controling your skating.sometimes while you're skating like that you're saying to yourself that skateboarding is gonna be my way out this piece of shi*t town,or my way to make it on my own so you'll never have to deal with the people around me shi*t.I guess thats something else skateboarding does for you. I know this was totally off subject ,but i dont care,i needed to get out how i felt, and i snap my deck today and im broke so a free one wouldn't be the worst thing for me right now.

Skateboarding is something that can't be explained in words its just so hard to explain you have to experience for yourself before you can make a decision about it. For some people skateboarding is just something that you do for fun, for me skateboarding is a way of life. Since day one I have always given skateboarding 110% no matter how it was to learn a new trick, or how much it hurt to get up from a hard slam, I always got up and tryed it again, its the feeling that you get when you accomplish something in skateboarding that makes it all worth while. Skateboarding is all mental for me, you can't skateboard without using your mind. I could care less if i hurt myself, i'll just get back up and try it again. The one thing that always has got on my nerves is when you try and try to land a trick and it just doesn't work out and start to get so mad and that feeling just sits in your mind until you finally say thats enough I will try again another day and then it just leaves. I live, breath, and eat skateboarding I will do this until the day I die.

hey slam!!! and all the cool skaters that read your mag!, i just went to the perth baker demo at manning skatepark and it was awesome Andrew Reynolds was fully sick he performed a massive hardflip over the fun box and a tre flip off the bank and T.K also ripped it up so did everyone else well except for on person and i know some people might think im crazy saying this and know it's probably only in this one time that this will ever happen but Dustin Dollin sucked it took an hour to get him to skate he tried the same trick 3 times landed it and that was it, I am so pissed off about that but the rest of the demo was awesome. Midway through the demo some New Zealanders puleed up on the top off the quarter pipe in a thriffy van and a little bit later one of the New Zealander's dogs ran through the skatepark mid demo it was hillarious, later near the end of the demo the commentators said that everyone that brought some rubbish to the van would get a free deck so everyone rushed over to the van with hands full of rubbish yelling at the kiwis for free decks and started throwing bottles it was great. When BAKER were giving away decks two guys got into a massive fight over one. i know i said that the rest of the demo was awesome earlier but one thing really bad happened this guy had a massive stack on the bank and had passed out for half an hour and had broken his arm...that was gnarly but other than that the demo was awesome, Bye.

My Blog: Young Love
By: ShyGirl15

The embarrassed moon turned away
It was like a door swinging
Which slammed at morning
Our ears hurt
Watching from our twin beds in the attic
But nobody ever learned
of our interest in the heavens

Shyly, our fingertips touched
As the glaring lighthouse beam
Swept across the room
And landed on our dominoes...

Since this is our first blog on here reffering to the Scoff Project. I feel I will have to go throught the history with you all.
We came up with an idea "Wouldn't it be great to build the largest skate ramp in town?" ha And since that we have gather wood from a fellow super-intendent who practically provided us will all the plyood we neede to build this project and some. We were going to build a 8ft launch ramp with a rollin in height of 13-15ft and 2-3ft wide. We estimate you will hit the bottom between 20-30 mph and be shot at least 12ft high into the air.
We are planning on making a documentry of the building of the mini-mega ramp and show everything that all went into the thought about it. Expected to be released June 2007.

 So let the construction began...
in the beginigng
Just about to lay the ply

We would build the sections of the ramp and haul them out to the back where we had a levy to support roll-in.The walk was about 2 acres or just a about 1 football field length.
From the hill
Top view of the ramp, with first part of the runway attached

Soon after building the next 2 runway peices we realized that they would be to skinny and need to widen them incase of speed wobbles became an issue. We don't want people getting thrown down hill slaming into theground. We want them getting thrown up the ramp! A week later we widen the runway another 1.5 ft - 2ft and started work on the roll-in.
the Scoff project - side view
Side view of ramp w/ the skinny runway

Now the roll-in was probally the trickiest and hardest part of this whole project, cause of it having to custom fit to the side and top of the levy and remain level.
 Scoff rollin
 The Roll-in underconstruction

We had to custom build every peice of ply to fit the levy the best we could and still go flush with the rest of the run. That was very difficult. When we finally got it built there was a small problem with it getting flush with the rest of the run and its started to rain and freeze over the night. So we had to bring the whole 12ft long roll-in back to the house to be rebuilt and worked on. After the freeze was easing off we took the tarp off the ramp and started back to work.

We got all the peices assmbled and connected, then work on making sure the rollin was flowing with the rest of the run. 2 days later its finshed. Not to you all we only spent $30 on this whole project so far!!! Next month we will overlap it with masonitte.

-Latest update-
So then after building it over a period of 3 weeks its done. The last day of assembling the ramp was the hardest. Mainly because the rollin (which is 12ft long) ran into some problems and we had to make sure it connected just right with the track.
Fixing the Roll-in
The roll-in under contruction

I even manage to loose control of it while moving it and slide half way down the hill. None the less I got quite a few slivers, scrapes and sore neck to boot. Well here you go the finall photos of the finished ramp.

Along side the ramp - from ontp the levy.

Expected test runs will happen this saturday.
Rob a clovis local and friend of mine will be the brave soul to first launch from the ramp to FLAT! Yes you heard it, to flat! Why him and not me you ask...Well he has better health insurance. lol We are launching to flat to determine how large the gap is and then build the landing bank in that position for a true big air manueuver. Once the ramp is fully finished we will schedule a date and take the ramp apart and rebuild it all in hopefully one day. The whole day will be recorded and editied for the upcoming video(THE SCOFF PROJECT - Building a Monster), the next months will be used to capture footage of local and visiting skaters performing their own insane stunts and bails.

Also check out our website Scoff Skateboarding for an exclusive photo of the ramp and the builder and see how big it really is. Photo to be released on website by 1-18-07

Skate News: Skateboarding
By: skatesuicide

Skateboarding...

Its about opportunity. It is about creativity. It is about being creative enough to take your opportunities and make the best of them. Create fun. Create havoc. Create something new and original. Skateboarding is about looking at an object and seeing it in a completely different light than 99% of the people on this planet. Its about taking that object and adapting to it; applying a brand new technique to it. Skateboarding is about grabbing those opportunities; about skating that bank thats usually a bust except for the 15 minutes between 5:30pm and 5:45pm when the guards change shifts. Its about seeing opportunities where none had existed before. It's about creating those opportunities when none are apparent.

Skateboarding can be about pain. Skateboarding can invariably be about joy... all kinds of successes and achieving goals. It's what sets you apart from the peck down the street or the jock in English class that runs A&F gear. But you get out of it what you put into it. You'll find your skills improve with practice; your techniques improve over time. Your judgement even improves along with all of that eventually.

Skateboarding is about frustration The inability to land that trick. The inability for your parents or teachers to understand your obsession with a "useless piece of wood." Skateboarding mirrors real life like a charm. Success, setbacks, downfalls, disappointments, victories, defeats, slams, lands, learning and forgetting. This month, let's consider that. Around the next corner could be a COP or a brand new slick ledge you've never seen before. You may get harassed or assaulted; you may get sponsored; but there's only one way to find out. Don't be afraid, give it a good push and see what happens next. If you're scared, push a little harder. This isn't about skateboarding anymore this is about life, but for you, it may be one in the same.

i have been on  an around the world trip for ten months and rite now im on safari.and i thought that i was so lucky as I stood taking pictures of the sunrise from atop the cliff. Lake Manyara, who would have thought? Today is not only my 13th birthday, but also the one year anniversary of the beginning of the end of my house on Burris street,it burned down... - and my life as I knew it. It was one year ago today that I was supposed to go downtown to meet some friends for a birthday drink and had to cancel because my kitchen was completely flooded. I had no idea what was in store for me at the time, but if you had told me then that this flood would lead to a fire that would leave me homeless, which would lead to a robbery, which would lead me to being posessionless, which would render me completely free with no responsibilities, which would lead me to travel around the world, which would lead me here, to the Serengeti - I may have had trouble believing you. Back then I was so entrenched in my life that I would never have thought any of it possible. However, it was all true because I have been in Africa for three.this is the series of the events that happened all that that happened to our house wich i loved led me to this!-look down!

look up!
this is the leopard we saw on the sarengetti only 200 int he whole park and we saw it 3 times!

3 and a half months now in africa with only a few days left before we head to Nepal...........

This is where I want to be. Right now, on my 13th birthday. Leopard tracking on the Serengeti. We have seen every animal that I have wanted to see in Africa so far - except Leopards. Above all, these are the elusive cats I came here to find. And now I am in the truck looking for one. It was a very slow start to the morning. We were tired from the drive in from Lake Manyara in the hot sun with the dusty, potholed, dirt road. Five hours of bouncing around like we were ping-pong balls in the world championships but we're here now, on the Serengeti, and we are searching. Finally Salim, our guide, gets the radio call that they have spotted a leopard in a tree with a gazelle that he has just caught. He is up there having lunch. We are still about 7kms away so Salim slams the truck into gear and we race off. The feeling of 4x4ing through the mud and the potholes, top speed, to go watch this animal eat his prey. It seemed
stalking his prey about to kill again!

like it took forever, but eventually we arrived, and there he was. A leopard in a tree eating a gazelle.....what a sight. I stood there watching him as I reflected on what a difference a year makes.

We watched the leopard for a very long time until he finally came down from the tree and vanished into the bushes. We would end up seeing three leopards all together and it was the highlight of my time on the Serengeti. We ended up back at the lodge and had dinner with this really nice family from Seattle. After dinner i got a piece of cake as everyone sang Happy Birthday, and as I blew the candle out on my 13th year, all I could think of was "Phew, I'm glad that's over".

12 was a tough, pivotal, fateful year. I lost a lot but I gained the world.

Life goes on.

song dedicated to this:

These are the days - 10,000 maniacs

ps.im back in canadda for 3 weeks then i go to bangkok thailand:)

My Blog: Bangerang!!
By: JennyG

Well well, i havent written one of these since summer! Its December already? Geez time gets away fast! Tons of shi*t has happened in my life since my last blog. So yea my summer was jammed packed with two jobs (serving and skating) But i managed to go to Penticton, BC for a week with a few friends.....good times for sure (we met random people), the skatepark was the funnest thing ever! After that I volunteered at slam city jam for a whole weekend and it was soo rad! I ended up actually skating the set up, including the vert ramp as well....It was Huge! I got to see Swollen Members up close (got to shake their hands oh yea!) I think im defintely gonna do that next year.

So this was my first year back at school since high school. Im going to Mount Royal College in Calgary and im taking a 4 year applied degree called Eco Tourism and Outdoor Leadership. It is seriously the best program anyone ever invented! The first day of school we had to climb this wall using only eachother to get up and over it. I was wearing a skirt that day, haha good times (i still did it of course). Anyways the people in the program are just as amazing, we are all tight!! Rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaing and canoeing are mandatory classes you have to take. We did some sick trips in the mountains, ive never been on such steep ridgelines in my life! I also had to get over my fear of being in caves, i would rather go rock climbing....which is ten times more dangerous. HAH! Next semester i have to take a wilderness survival course, should be interesting, cause i can only bring 3 items, and your not allowed to bring a sleeping bag or tent, not to mention that this is going to be in the middle of winter! So what would you bring??

UMM so other than i was in a relationship for 2 months, with a guy named AJ who is a rad skater......we are still friends.....I turned 20 in October (man i feel old, that was my last summer as a teen!)Got my nose pierced - didnt hurt at all. Im working at Canada Olympic Park im a snowboard instructor, my first shift is next week! Ive gotten out snowboarding a couple of times in the mountains, got pretty sore, it was sweet! I hope to get much more pow pow days in......

I went to the Killswitch Engage concert this week, and it was SOO good, they rock, you should check em out! (If you are hardcore that is)

Future news: Im going to be driving a car soon yay(well boo for polluting the enviroment and not using my bicycle) Also im going to Red Rocks, Nevada in February to do some rock climbing with people from my class! Im stoked!!

Well enjoy the snow! I know i am!

Catchya on the flip side

Ciao!

411 14-4, available November 21st! Art Director Bob Kronbauer sprinkles his creative dust and gives this issue a look and feel that stands out from the rest. Okay, who wished for the hamster?

Openers will get your heart racing and the adrenalin pumping, followed by an amazing Chaos that features Danny Garcia, Chris Haslam, Dennis Busenitz, Devine Calloway, and Kenny Anderson! These two parts alone will get you hyped to go out and skate!

Robert Lopez, from Puerto Rico, is one skate machine that doesn't have an off switch. Put anything in his way and he'll annihilate it. Big gaps? Crazy rails? It doesn't matter! Robert skates like angry Silverback gorilla with the power to bulldoze anything that stands in his path. 14-4 brings you a full part that's not suitable for the weak-willed.

The Planet Earth skate crew went on a trip to Greece for some homemade Gyros and Pita Bread, and instead came back with a full skate part featuring Nate Broussard, Steve Nesser, and Jon Newport. Get ready to smash some plates on your head!

What's young, Brazilian and rips? Why, it's Danny Cerezini of course! Currently holding it down in the OC, this up-and-coming Am is throwing it down all over the place, and making it look too easy while he's at it! This smooth part from Danny will sure open your eyes!

What's a synonym for Switchstance? Andre Genovesi! Recently added to the Hosoi Skates Pro roster, 411's got the debut pro part with the master of switch himself! This guy takes a licking and keeps on ticking! Also featuring Christian Hosoi, Daniel Cardone and Richard Mulder, you won't want to miss this!

Daewon Song, Daniel Castillo, Zered Bassett, Chico Brenes and Torey Pudwill spent two weeks touring Mexico and Costa Rica, eating some good authentic cuisine and shredding up some unique spots. Did you see that line up? Yeah, this Chupa Cabra Tour is on point!

To wrap everything up, 14-4 brings you Chico Brenes, the Nicaraguan-turned-SF-native whose ability to push should be a trick in S.K.A.T.E. Also featuring Mike Carroll, Daewon Song, Rick Howard, Danny Castillo, and Jeron Wilson, nobody comes with cleaner lines than this man, and 14-4's got a full part to back it.

14-4 did some last minute looking around and was able to snag these Special Features just in time for the holidays: The Pro-Tec Pool Party featuring Chris Miller, Omar Hassan and Jeff Grosso; the Vans Downtown Showdown featuring Josh Harmony, Rick McCrank, Corey Duffel and Nick Dompierre; and the Slam Trick Contest featuring Andre Genovesi, Chris Pfanner and Tony Magnusson (!) that went down in Ravenna, Italy.

In addition to the great articles, 411 14-4's features an interactive product guide as well as a magazine supplement with beautiful color photos and interviews with the featured skaters. Be sure to put 411 14-4 on the top of your Holiday wish list!

Hi All
Well after 6 short weeks the crew at Unit and I have gone our seperate ways they just weren't the company i thought they were so after alot of f*ckin around for bugger all reward we have parted ways.
We're still friendly though as they will be sponsoring a new dvd project that i am involved with and maybe sometime in the future we will work together again but right now they didn't fit in with what i'm doing and i didn't fit in with what they were doing so no more UNIT for me...
On the other things front we are trying to push HERESY SNOWBOARDS into the northern hemisphere as their witner approaches with some of our team riders already over there getting ready to explode. And of course we are trying to get our local shops here at home to dedicate some more floor space to our products...
BOOM SKATEBOARDS is making a really big push at the moment to lift their game here in Oz and hopefully after a summer of selling truck loads of skateboards we may back on track. BOOM is australasia's longest running skateboard label and with any luck we'll see a return to our glory days. Check out our new ads in just about every new issue of SLAM to hit the shelves...
As usual the Surfboard side of things is starting to get out of control as we approach summer and i'm off to sydeny this week on a huge sales mission with all the board labels i represent. The lads from CHAOS SURFBOARDS have just made a quiver for the lads from PEARL JAM and we are currently giving a surfboard away through Australian Surfing Life as well to lift our exposure as we run into summer...
And on the MINI MOTO X front ESD's website and online store is now up and running and we are quickly becoming the premier parts dealer for the mini moto x market in the country. So check out the website and let me know if you need anything....
I hope your all well and smiling and i look forward to seeing and hearing from you all over summer...
Stay Sideways
Leigh
