CALGARY (Sunday, August 27th,2006) –– Rob Lorifice, an 18-year-old from Carlsbad, Ca., made a major breakthrough Sunday by edging out Brazilian champion and X Games star Sandro Dias of Brazil in the men's Vert final at the $100,000 Slam City Jam North American skateboard championships at the Round Up Centre at Stampede Park.

"I can't even tell you what this means to me, to win this thing, here, on the (Boom Boom) Huck Jam ramp," said Lorifice, referring to the $1,000,000 Vert ramp designed and built by international skateboarding icon Tony Hawk of San Diego, California. It marked Lorifice's first-ever professional title and came before a near-capacity crowd of 3,600 at the Round Up Centre.

Lorifice earned 90.25 points and $15,000 in first-place prize money while Dias finished with 88.50 and the second-place purse of $9,000.

Dias was on an August tear which included gold at X Games 12 in Los Angeles and first-place at the Vans Invitational in Portland, Oregon, last weekend.

Neal Hendrix of Redondo Beach, Ca., an eight-time medalist at the X Games, earned his best-ever showing in 13 tries at Slam City Jam, finishing third with 82.75 points. He earned $5,000.

The worst thing has happened to me.....My best friend Jesse Mckay, 17 years old, originally from Mission bc and moved to Nelson bc died instantly in a car accident friday,13,2004.They flew off of a 200 ft embankment going 50 ft down crashing into a barricade of trees, both not wearing seatbelts and flung from the vehicle,Jesse snapped his neck and died instantly.I can't believe this, I LOVE HIM SO......................MUCH AND WILL ALWAYS!!!!,I mean this probably comes off as an everyday thing..but not for me,he has always been my best friend, and will forever be,and I cant wait to see him again!!!!!!!!!!!.Jesse was the one who got me into skateboarding and Nirvana, and those are the 2 biggest things of my life, which makes him THE BIGGEST thing in my life!!!!O man the amount of anger and sadness in me is just so hard to put into words...I've broken down all day today since I found out,and it's killing me,and will continue to everyday of my life..as I'm writing this Im crying(and Im not one to..well ever cry)man I cant take this, this is the most retarded thing to happen!!!!!!!!!OF ALL PEOPLE OF ALL THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!GOD!!WHY??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!man ....AHHHHHHHHH just without any words to explain all this in me....but anyway from what I heard the driver is in serious but stable condition in kelowna,bc,now they dont know if alcohol was involved because they were not found for 18 hours, please I hope this will make you rethink your driving skills and realize you are responsible for more than just your life while driving, and please please as dumb as this sounds..wear a seatbelt,Jesse would still be alive if only he had wore one....I WANT JESSSE!..I cant take this it''s nearly unbearable..Life sucks!!!!sorry I thought I would share this, something that has been totally life changing and devastating, man I cant take this sorry.I'm out..R.I.P.JESSE I LOVE YOU WAAAY TOO MUCH NO WORDS CAN TELL YOU HOW MUCH I DO!~Love daysh~BR
