D.O.P.E. is coming!!!!
DEATH OR PRISON EVENTUALLY!!!!!
A true story about the greats of Skating
Bruce Logan World Champion 1975 76
Dogtowns Jay Adams maybe the skater who revolusionised skateboarding
Dennis Martinez world Chmapion
Christian Hosoi the skate star of the 80s
D.O.P.E. tracks the Rise and Fall and Redemption of Four major skateboard legends.
Stunning archival footage and current HD interviews take you on a rollercoaster ride through heaven and hell, where the highs of championship trophies are followed by the lows of addiction, homelessness, prison and death. Original music by Grammy winners ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, P.O.D> and SWITCHFOOT along with some exciting new musical groups is perfectly married with the gritty narration of famed actor DANNY TREJO. The Rise is steep the fall is brutal and the Redemption nothing less than miraculous.

Nobody"s going to get up for popcorn during this film; I coudn't turn away for a second.
WATCH IT
-Actor Danny Trejo

D.O.P.E is DogTown with a message. I've skated all my life, and write this with a broken wrist from skating. This film is all about brokenness, but so much more, this film is about redemption!!!

-Jim Moriarty, CEO Surfrider Foundation

Everyone pretty much knows that drugs wreck LIVES, but somehow the message doesn't seem to hit home enough to stop people from doin' 'em D.O.P.E. delivers the point with both barrels. With unflinching cander and unfeigned grit, the amazing story of one of skateboarding's founding legends; Dennis Martinez speaks with authority that transcends wards of power that will change lives.

-Skateboarding Legend Rodney Mullen

This movie shows how any person at the top of their game can be taken over by the uncontrolled power of drugs and be changed forever. You can only ride the edge so far before you FALL.

-Professional Skateboarder, 6 times X Games Champion Bucky Lasek

A Fascinating glimpse into the rise , fall and redemption of some of the world's greatest
- Michael Brooke, Publisher, Concrete Wave

In sharing this with you all I feel is blessed to be a part of this.
Like last year
Myself and Dennis Martinez are going to be going into the schools in the Cayman Islands to share this message and then on the 31st May 2008 we will be showing the movie in one of the local Cinemas.
Being in Law Enforcemnet I have had first hand experience seeing people make the wrong decision to get involved in drugs. I have seen families torn appart, people die because of drugs, do time, and suffer illnesses which have lead also to eventuall death.

Dennis Martinez is someone who has lived it at the top earning over $40,000.00US per month in the 1970's, he had alll sponsorships, shoes, boards, cars all the trimmings being the top dog in skating, he then threw it all away for drugs. Imagine  he pawned for $500.00US  of DOPE his pride and joy his WORLD CUP which he set his eyes on from the age of 12 years old. He lived on the streets saw his freinds die, robbed for a living to also feed his drug habit. He did time in prison; then something changed he now has a life he is a tireless worker for the better. He now pasters to CAT 4 prisoners he shares his experience so others do not make the same mistakes he and others made. I advise all to watch this movie as their are lessons to be learned by all
if you use drugs think about what help is out there seek it and get off it and if you know people do the right thing as a freind help them. THE LIFE YOU SAVE MIGHT BE YOUR OWN.
If you come to the Cayman Islands to skate BLACK PEARL you can say hi cause I will be there. a skater and PROUD FARTHER of
Brian 16
Sean 7
Juliana 2 she also skates
They skate and can be seen at Black Pearl

My Blog: Taco Bell
By: cetra70

After our church service, we had lunch at Taco Bell. I think I ate 4 tacos...2 soft, 2 crunchy...and they were good...Except that now I'm starting to regret it cuz my stomach is going berserk...but that might be because of the ice cream we bought at Jiffy Treet. Jiffy Treet has really good ice cream (slushies, etc, etc), so next time you pass by it, go try some...

After that, we went home and I went to the computer straight away...So here I am now, typing this...procrastinating...NOT GOOD...bad habit! MUST BREAK!

Well, you can't blame me for not wanting to learn all 42 presidents...but I've had some progress: I mememorized the first 8 in one minute :D Woot!

Okay, gotta get back to studying the presidents...cya!

My list of memorized presidents:

1) George Washington
2) John Adams
3) Thomas Jefferson
4) James Madison
5) James Monroe
6) John Quincy Adams
7) Andrew Jackson
8) Martin Van Buren
9) William Henry Harrison
10) John Tyler
11) James Polk
12) Zachary Taylor
13) Millard Fillmore
14) Franklin Pierce
15) James Buchanan
16) Abraham Lincoln
17) Andrew Johnson
18) Ulysses Grant
19) Rutherford Hayes
20) James Garfield
21) Chester Arthur
22) Grover Cleveland
23) Banjamin Harrison
24) Grover Cleveland
25) William McKinley
26) Theodore Roosevelt
27) Howard Taft
28) Woodrow Wilson
29) Warren Harding
30) Calvin Coolidge
31) Herbert Hoover
32) Franklin Roosevelt
33) Harry Truman
34) Dwight Eisenhower
35) John Kennedy
36) Lyndon Johnson
37) Richard Nixon
38) Gerald Ford
39) Jimmy Carter
40) Ronald Reagan
41) George H.W. Bush
42) Bill Clinton
43) George W. Bush

YAY! I did it! :D That---was---so---annoying! RAWR! Wish me luck on the pre-test...

‘RISE AGAINST’ HEADLINES DC SHOES LAUNCH PARTY AT WEST 49 CANADIAN OPEN

…Punk Rock Bands ‘Boys Night Out’, ‘Hostage Life’ and ‘Richmond Hill’ Round Out Lineup

The West 49 Canadian Open presented by Xbox will get off to a rockin’ start in two weeks with the DC Shoes Launch Party presented by MTV Overdrive featuring headlining act ‘Rise Against’.  The launch party, taking place at The Hamilton Convention Centre at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, is an all ages event with a designated licensed area for those 19 or older.

Fellow punk rock acts ‘Boys Night Out’, ‘Hostage Life’ and ‘Richmond Hill’ will join Rise Against on the bill.  Tickets for the launch party are priced at $26 in advance and are available through Ticketmaster, or they can also be purchased at the door for $28.

“With the event moving to Hamilton this year, and the participation of snow and skate superstar Shaun White, we’re expecting this year’s West 49 Canadian Open to be a big hit,” said Mark Taylor, vice president of event properties for IMG Canada.  “It’s fitting to have the weekend of World Cup Skateboard competition kick off with a great launch party with Rise Against and some other great acts.”

With the release this past summer of their fourth album, “The Sufferer & The Witness”, the Chicago-based Rise Against has been redefining punk rock’s rules and captivating both fans and critics.

The West 49 Canadian Open presented by Xbox, one of the premier stops on the World Cup Skateboarding Tour, features the sports top skateboarders competing for $75,000 US in prize money in the Billabong Street Course, Rail Rumble, and the KD Invitational Quarter-Pipe competitions.

White, one of the biggest names in the world of Action Sports, will compete in the KD Quarter-Pipe Pro Invitational ‘Highest Air’ competition on Saturday, September 30 at 1p.m.  White took home gold medals in the snowboard halfpipe at both the 2006 Winter Olympics and Winter X Games and recently won two ESPY Awards for “Best Olympian” and “Favourite Male Action Sports Athlete.”

Tickets for both the concert and the competition are currently on sale for the West 49 Canadian Open through Ticketmaster by calling (905) 546-7666 in Hamilton or (905) 481-4444 outside of Hamilton, or by visiting www.canadianopenskateboard.com or www.ticketmaster.ca

In addition to the appearance by White, many of top names in the world of professional skateboarding are expected to attend including Canadian Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Ryan Sheckler, Eric Koston, Chris Haslam, Lyn-Z Adams and Lacey Baker.

Lyn-z Adams Hawkins of Cardiff-By-The-Sea, CA, one of the world’s top female action sports athletes, will be at the Slam City Jam North American Skateboard Championships despite a leg injury which has kept her sidelined from the World Cup of Skateboarding Tour this summer.

Adams Hawkins missed the recent X Games 12 in Los Angeles but is demonstrating her commitment to the promotion and development of women’s skateboarding by making the trip to Calgary for Slam City August 25-27, 2006.

Described in some circles as the “rock’n’roll star of skateboarding”, Adams will perform a guest host role for Slam City TV, working to support main in-arena hosts Dave Duncan and Calgary’s own Tara Teigen. It marks the first time in the last five years that Adams will not be able to compete at Slam City Jam and do what she does best: Vert.

Adams was the gold medalist in Vert skateboarding at X Games 10 in 2004, silver medalist at X Games 11 in 2005 and has become one of the biggest stars in skateboarding at the age of 16.

“We’re committed to showcasing the best in skateboarding competition but if we can join forces with young stars such as Lyn-z to help promote skateboarding in other ways, especially among girls and women here in Canada and around the world, then that’s a big bonus for us as a core skateboarding event,” said Kleo Landucci, President of Slam City Jam. “We’ve been very impressed with what Lyn-z is doing for professional skateboarding and we’re pleased she has offered to support women’s skateboarding and Slam City in this way while she’s recovering from her injury. We of course look forward to having her back on the Vert ramp next year.”

Sponsored by DC Shoes and Apparel, Nixon Watches, Naked Juice, K-Five Boardshop, Innovation Sports, Type S Wheels in this order please, Adams has gained a global profile in skateboarding largely on the strength of her X-Games accomplishments alongside the sport’s legendary veterans. She is the first woman to land the 55-foot gap of Danny Way’s Mega Ramp, she was first in women’s Vert at the 2004 X-Games and last year was second only to veteran Cara-Beth Burnside of the U.S. last year. Burnside is the three-time defending Slam City Vert champion.

“Lyn-z Adams will be a name to be reckoned with for many years to come in skateboarding,” said Landucci. “We think even her presence at Stampede Park and in Calgary this month will do much to draw young female fans and families to the event.”

I sit alone in bedroom
starin' at the walls
I've been up all damn night long
my pulse is speedin'
my love is yearnin'

I hold my breath and close my eyes and
dream about her cuz
she's 2000 light years away
She holds my Malakite [note: wtf is malakite?] so tight so
never let go cuz
she's 2000 light years away

I sit outside and watch the sunrise
look out as far as I can
I can't see her but in the distants
I hear some laughter
we laugh together

I hold my breath and close my eyes and
dream about her cuz
she's 2000 light years away
She holds my Malakite so tight so
never let go cuz
she's 2000 light year away

Villa Villa Cola is putting out a call for submissions of footage of female skateboarders for our new dvd video project, “Shredding the Gnar in the Stoked Zone.” This dvd project is being sponsored by Element Skateboards and produced and distributed by 411 Video Magazine. So far, it features peril & sass by the following experts: Vanessa Torres, Amy Caron, Cara Beth Burnside, Faye Jaime, Alex White, Patiane Freitas, Elizabeth Nitu, Nugget, Lauren Mollica, Van Nguyen, Lauren Perkins, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, amongst others. The project is aiming at providing authentic representation of the current happenings in the varying subcultures of the elusive and mysterious underworld of female skateboarders in the USA and around the world. However, our financial resources, mobility, and time are very limited, as we are just skateboarders ourselves trying to make this video happen and not business ladies. Often it is difficult to discover all of the secret shred getters interspersed throughout the lands because there is such a vast lack of representation and communication between scenes. So VVC is depending greatly on the donations of skate footage of primarily girls and women who are beyond our reach and under our radar. We have worked very hard to secure this rare opportunity to make a video with the hope of representing a diverse group of creative people who rarely receive recognition. We have complete creative control and we all skate, so rest assured this is not yet another frail attempt by clueless moneybags to appeal to girls and women by feminizing and prissing up skateboarding to make it more digestible to the masses. This project has the potential to be a landmark in skateboarding history and we want to provide an authentic cross-section of the fanciest footwork from all of the lands. Quality of filming, video, and skating is VERY important to us. Mini DV is strongly recommended. All footage should be sent to our videographer and editor, Lisa Whitaker by July 31, 2004. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in getting involved. We are depending on your help to make this video the strongest it can be. Thank you!

-From all of us at Villa Villa Cola

*Villa Villa Cola is a collective of women who have been skating together and documenting women’s skateboarding through self-published zines and videos for the past 10 years. Please visit www.villavillacola.com for more information.
