D.O.P.E. is coming!!!!
DEATH OR PRISON EVENTUALLY!!!!!
A true story about the greats of Skating
Bruce Logan World Champion 1975 76
Dogtowns Jay Adams maybe the skater who revolusionised skateboarding
Dennis Martinez world Chmapion
Christian Hosoi the skate star of the 80s
D.O.P.E. tracks the Rise and Fall and Redemption of Four major skateboard legends.
Stunning archival footage and current HD interviews take you on a rollercoaster ride through heaven and hell, where the highs of championship trophies are followed by the lows of addiction, homelessness, prison and death. Original music by Grammy winners ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, P.O.D> and SWITCHFOOT along with some exciting new musical groups is perfectly married with the gritty narration of famed actor DANNY TREJO. The Rise is steep the fall is brutal and the Redemption nothing less than miraculous.

Nobody"s going to get up for popcorn during this film; I coudn't turn away for a second.
WATCH IT
-Actor Danny Trejo

D.O.P.E is DogTown with a message. I've skated all my life, and write this with a broken wrist from skating. This film is all about brokenness, but so much more, this film is about redemption!!!

-Jim Moriarty, CEO Surfrider Foundation

Everyone pretty much knows that drugs wreck LIVES, but somehow the message doesn't seem to hit home enough to stop people from doin' 'em D.O.P.E. delivers the point with both barrels. With unflinching cander and unfeigned grit, the amazing story of one of skateboarding's founding legends; Dennis Martinez speaks with authority that transcends wards of power that will change lives.

-Skateboarding Legend Rodney Mullen

This movie shows how any person at the top of their game can be taken over by the uncontrolled power of drugs and be changed forever. You can only ride the edge so far before you FALL.

-Professional Skateboarder, 6 times X Games Champion Bucky Lasek

A Fascinating glimpse into the rise , fall and redemption of some of the world's greatest
- Michael Brooke, Publisher, Concrete Wave

In sharing this with you all I feel is blessed to be a part of this.
Like last year
Myself and Dennis Martinez are going to be going into the schools in the Cayman Islands to share this message and then on the 31st May 2008 we will be showing the movie in one of the local Cinemas.
Being in Law Enforcemnet I have had first hand experience seeing people make the wrong decision to get involved in drugs. I have seen families torn appart, people die because of drugs, do time, and suffer illnesses which have lead also to eventuall death.

Dennis Martinez is someone who has lived it at the top earning over $40,000.00US per month in the 1970's, he had alll sponsorships, shoes, boards, cars all the trimmings being the top dog in skating, he then threw it all away for drugs. Imagine  he pawned for $500.00US  of DOPE his pride and joy his WORLD CUP which he set his eyes on from the age of 12 years old. He lived on the streets saw his freinds die, robbed for a living to also feed his drug habit. He did time in prison; then something changed he now has a life he is a tireless worker for the better. He now pasters to CAT 4 prisoners he shares his experience so others do not make the same mistakes he and others made. I advise all to watch this movie as their are lessons to be learned by all
if you use drugs think about what help is out there seek it and get off it and if you know people do the right thing as a freind help them. THE LIFE YOU SAVE MIGHT BE YOUR OWN.
If you come to the Cayman Islands to skate BLACK PEARL you can say hi cause I will be there. a skater and PROUD FARTHER of
Brian 16
Sean 7
Juliana 2 she also skates
They skate and can be seen at Black Pearl

Ok,please dont like throw this one away because of that immature title, i seen it on a myspace comment. But seriously skateboarding had been a part of my life for 2 years now, and in a way it gave me a life, i know it sounds silly but before skateboarding i was just some random kid popping zits on his face.Skateboarding has taken me a long way from  that kid with no direction i used to be  .After i started skating my entire outlook on life changed,it went from looking as something as a road block to just another ledge for me to grind over.Because when you skateboard you learn to have a different perspective on life. I remember like maybe say a year ago when i first got the ollie down i thought i was the best, i was jumping off of little 4 sets and over sidewalks ,and eventhough the ollie isn't the hardest trick my friends never really said oh you suck, go home or called me a poser or anything like that they just said way to go because they knew that skateboarding wasn't just about landing the awesomest tricks it was about that feeling that you got after finally landing that trick you've been killing yourself trying to learn. Then after that i started to move on to harder things like the kickflips and heelflips, eventhough on those earlier days when i couldn't land any of them i felt like giving up when i first walked in the house, but like an hour later i was ready to go back outside and give it another try.
thats a picture of me landing one of my first ever heelflips at the old cracked parking lot where i landed alot of first tricks.

This is me after ,soaked in sweat ( lol it almost looks liked i pissed on myself lol )
holding my crappy alliance board ( back then when you're first starting you really dont care what board you're skating as long as you're skating) feeling like The Great Rodney Mullen.

Skateboarding is almost like a  drug, while you pumped up you can't really feel the pain, you can take a 15 set fall and be ready to do it again. The feeling you get is the best, and its like time just floats on by,because while you're skateboarding it's like you're in another world (except when hot girls walk by you notice them and try to take it up a notch )almost like you're in your own reality. It feels like you can do whatever you want, like you look at huge buildings and in your mind you're like "i can ollie over that with right launch,or you see a extra long rail and you're like i can blunt grind that.

Skateboarding almost gives you a since of acomplishment, like you can succeed at anything you try if you work hard enough.

Skateboarding almost makes you feel like a kid again, like when you were young and you  would think that anythings possible.

Skateboarding is like a release for everything that's going on in your life, your friends are acting weird, not making the perfect grades, didn't get asked by a girl to the Sadie Hawkins dance by a girl( well you do care but while you're skating you forget all of that),it really dont matter as long as at the end of the day i can get out there and shred something up.Well thats pretty much all i have to say.Just keep skating for the love of skating and nothing else.

The UBF: Episode One was released today and I waited a good month or so for this short film. The online film is approx. 10min long and it focused mainly on Paul Machnau even though there were other Globe Team riders in the film. Pro-Skaters like Chris Haslam, Mark Appleyard, Jake Duncombe, and David Gonzalez. David Gonzalez only performs one trick in the entire film (which he doesn't even ), so I dont think he counts as an appearance but whatever he was there. Some Team Riders weren't  seen such as Rodney Mullen, Matt Mumford and Greg Lutzka.

Paul Machnau was taking care of business with the rails, but what stood out to me was the kickflip to lipslide, the hip gap to lipslide, and the huge gap he ollied at the end his first part of his episode. I guess Paul's favourite trick for this video were the Lipslides and the Bluntslides since he did them quite a bit. Even though this Episode was focused on Paul Machnau, Chris Haslam had some great tricks in this episode. Like the One-Foot Tail Grab and the (Ride-in?) 50-50 to wallride. And Mark Appleyard's Heelfip Body Varial and Heelflip 50-50 trasition trick was dope!

The Cinematography in the Black/White segments felt somewhat post-modern with a slightly vague but interesting and creative concept. There was smoother transitions and I found it to be captivating aside from the skateboarding. The Filming of the skateboarding itself was very well done. Good framed shots, camera angles and camera movement. There were some shots that were quite unique at to the positioning of the camera and the movement. I also liked how the was a part at the end that ties Chris Haslam's Episode to this one. It hooks you into anticipation for the next episode if you haven't already after watching this episode.

Just wanted to ask you guys a couple ?'s

Are there any other christian skateboarders on this site if so you need to send me a message.

Do you think a Christian skateboard company could make it in the business?
If so do you have any ideas for names of the company?
Around my crib we have a couple of Christian based skateparks and they are pretty cool and they both have a skateshop and they stay pretty busy, tell me about any of these kinds of places around your area.

What about any of the pro skaters does any body know if any of those guys are Christians? I would like to find out if Rodney Mullen is because that guy shreds!!!!!!!!!

At my church in the youth group  we have a pretty good number of skaters and some of them are pretty good and I was thinking about putting together some kind of team or something. You know do demos and stuff (locally). I think it would be a pretty cool thing to do.

Favorite Christians bands/rappers/singers?

Answer any of these questions and give some feedback.

Thnx,
Jacob Courtemanche

It was 9am on Monday  when we left Stiffy's, an hour late, and the Dope Show had already begun.  It was hype since the night before, trying to round up the team and all the equipment we would need for the four days in the interior to come.  The only thing set in stone is that we were going north, and not going back until we had a documented road trip to show off.

Once we packed the Stiffy's van full to the brim of 5 riders, a filmer and myslef, we headed out towards Hope, as the van swayed at top speeds going up the Trans Canada Highway, it became clear that she might not make it the entire way.....

On a positve note, three hours into the trip we found a fully skateable sick ass bank just under the over pass of the freeway to Hope. Only a few hours after leaving, we already had an hour a footage, a roll of photos, and a friendly encounter with the RCMP.  We were off to a good start.

   Jessie b/s flip

The police officer made it clear that our time there was done, and we were quick to pack up.  We only stopped once for gas, and Jessie took over driving for a while.  Our next stop was in the city of Kelowna.  It took us alittle while to find Ben Lee skatepark, but we did after too long and setup shop.

We stayed in Kelowna that night and camped at Gyro Beach on Lake Okanagan.  The night was fun, and in the morning we were all feeling another shoot at Ben Lee.  More than anyone, G was wanting to go back for the kink.

The plan was to skate Kelowna in the morning and into the afternoon, until it got too hot, wait alittle while for it to cool down, and then drive on to Kamloops.  After the morning at Ben Lee, Alan was calling for a curve rail we saw the day before.  It was the last shoot of the day, both G and Alan threw down.

We went through Westbank, to get on the 97 highway that would take us through Merrit eventually making it to Kamloops.  Kamloops was a few hours away, assuming we could maintain an alright speed going up the highway.  It was that concept, and my ignorance to which gear I was driving in that delayed us for something like 16 hours.  60 kilometers outside of Merrit, our van had enough.  We were able to pull over to a safe spot on the highway before she finally layed down for the night.  Nothing to do about it in the late afternoon in the middle of the BC interior, we called it a day, and setup for the night.

With great care, we drove the van into Merrit the next morning, with an average speed of 60 on the 110 km/h highway.  Right after grocery shopping, the van cut out.  Luckily, right infront of a retired mechanic.  He took care of us and fixed our van up, from there she ran alright.  Next stop, Kamloops.

We first stopped at Kamloops' old park.  For those of you who know the Pitt Meadows park, it's about the same.  G and I went off to find a few things around town, and heard about a skate spot at an ice arena near the new park.

When we found Kamloops' first phase to the soon to be massive McArthur Island Park (designed by Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen) . We spent the rest of our day there, and what turned out to be the rest of our time in the interior.  That night we slept a few hundred meters away on a basketball court, all in the same park.  The whole team called for a final stop at the Hope skatepark.  It was a good cap on the trip.  It was our first and final shoot.

It was a successful trip, and lots of fun despite the few problems we had.  It was alot to learn in four days, but we took it all in stride.  Start to finish, it was the Dope Show.  Dust your shoulders off.  t*

I am sick a f*cking tired of seeing people wearing all this Bam crap. Kids, pink is the new black and Bam Margera is the new Tony Hawk. If you want to see someone with so much skill they can give a poser enough talent to skate as well as Bam and still have enough left over to show up anyone on a board, check out Rodney Mullen. Daewon Song is good too, but Mullen's Caspers, nollie flips, and truckstands are so much smoother and he can transition into and out of said tricks like he was just pullin an ollie. Also, quit wearing pink, you're not different, you're just conforming to the unconformists. Anyways, do what you want and don't let me or any other sh*thole stop you from doing what you want to, even if it is following the crowd. Finally, Alix, I love you and I miss you so much I'm writing a psudo editorial right now.
Cheers, Kiddos!!!

"I see myself as a Linus, carrying a skateboard around like some kind of security blanket. In a way, my skating has been my only real possession. Now that I’m older, I have a car, a stereo, a bank account - more than what I need. Yet I can’t say I’ve actually "earned" the stuff I have. It’s been given to me, in a way. My friends make fun of me. The bastards call me a mattress stuffer, a miser. But I have a hard time justifying fancy things when I haven’t done anything that merits them. I just do what I love to do- skate. It has been the only thing I’ve ever really had of any real value."
