Sign the online petition at www.saveorkus.com and send this e-mail to other skateboarders, family and friends so they do the same.  URGENT!

Petition to save Orkus (skatepark), an initiative from Orkus users

To all Montreal municipal elected officials,

We are Montreal skateboarders, inline skaters and bmx amateurs, sympathizers, parents or are issued from the industry.  We are the most interested in regard to the best indoor skatepark solution for Montreal.  We hereby want to strongly support Orkus skatepark, a park created for skateboarders by skateboarders.  We are asking you to help Orkus.  Presently, the city is at the midst of giving away 2,5 million dollars (besides a few more millions coming the provincial and federal governments) to the Taz project.  There is no doubt that the financial help required to keep Orkus open, is by far inferior to the amount of money asked by the Taz.  Therefore, for the sake of Montreal’s skateboarders and Montreal taxpayers, we are asking you to help our skatepark (Orkus) instead of pursuing in supporting the Taz.

With 400 000$ (the amount given in 2006 to develop Le Taz), the city could have financed more than the construction of a huge skatepark.  Too complex will you say?  Agree, the city could have offered free sessions for all Montreal skaters and other users of its installations for at least a year (if not more) in an already existing skatepark.  We are sorry to let you know that the investments done up to this day have not been used efficiently (as Le Taz project goes forward, serious doubts exist concerning its management) and that is why we are contacting you.  Fortunately, it is not too late for the city to correct the problem.  It is time that things change and that our youth have the services for which Montreal taxpayers are contributing.

Why not help an already existing organisation instead of developping something (Le Taz) that already exists in Montreal (the only indoor skatepark, Orkus of course)?

Respectfully yours,

Hi.

I'm Dan from the Warmley Forest skatepark and I'm writting this blog to spread the word
as we need help to get this done.

For a year now we have been working with the council to improve our skatepark ater we contacted them about it, but as with all councils not all of them were supportive to our project as in some peoples minds skateboarders are just vandals and crimanals
but so far even with some of their help things have only got worse after some idiots decided to burn one side of the park down and vandalize the place which decredited us in the eyes of the council.

So we set up this petition to prove how much support there is for this project and for people who think the park should be rebuilt.

Your all welcome to sign it, please show your support for the project.

Skateboard News: Lee Matasi - Petition
By: vsc

*artists against violence is a new organization formed in response to the murder of Lee Matasi.  Lee was a young artist with a promising career ahead of him.  He was only 23 when he was killed with a handgun.  His death is a call to action against the increasing number of violent and senseless deaths of innocent young people in Canada, each year. We cannot tolerate these murders as an acceptable form of response to the problems and conflicts of daily life.  *artists against violence is dedicated to working to provide people of all ages with alternatives to violence when responding to life’s challenges.

Take a minute and sign this petition.

Hi all,

The Parks Board seems intent on tearing down China Creek skatepark. It's a pretty old, some say historic park, but the main thing is, they shouldn't be getting rid of skateparks, they should be building more, or improving the ones we have. For info on what's up, check this out:

For Jeff chan's article on beyondrobson.com, check here:

But, it's not over yet - it's a public process, and there are options for us. Michel did say that the elected Parks Board members do not always follow the staffs' recommendations, so we can lobby the individual PB members directly. Their contact info is on the Park's
Board website... maybe this could be our next step, something we could do as a united effort by the VSPC and the skate community.

Here's the link to the Park's Board commissioners info:
http://vancouver.ca/parks/board/commissioners.htm

Al DeGenova has always been on side for skateboarding... he'd be good to approach about this.

One other thing to consider is that we can delay the whole process from being completed... if we insist on not having any 'interruption of service' (which according to the woman Parks Board staffer, I forget her name, is what they usually do) - meaning they CAN'T tear down the park until they find another location and build a park there... so if they were planning on tearing down the park in spring, too bad, they would have to
get a new location approved first and build something there before they could touch China Creek.

If we're considering lobbying the elected Parks Board members, Derek and I
still have all the old China Creek petitions that we collected names on - about 600 names in total... and we can start another round of petitions, and get letters from people (local politicians, business owners, skaters, pros... etc... ), present these to each individual PB commissioner, get the media out, etc.

Another thing, about the washrooms that they can't afford to build... didn't the Parks Board just build a million dollar washroom and expensive restaurant at Kits Beach like last year? Why is there money for buildings like that in a park but no money for washrooms in East Van?

Anyhow, we have options, it's not over yet - so let's not be too discouraged, and let's start planning the next step -

Check the antisocial site for the next Skate Coalition meeting...

Contrary to popular belief, size matters...go big... ride a Tanker!!

it's important for me, so please read the info below and help to stop the project !!!

Say “No” to the project “Pascua-Lama”.

Environmental rape by a multinational mining corp:
Destroying a glacier in the Andes to get at the gold deposits, poisoning the water supply and ecosystem in the process.

Say “No” to the project “Pascua-Lama”. A project of the transnational enterprise Barrick Gold, is a clear menace to some glaciers in a region of Los Andes. Some of the actions are move three glaciers in the frontier between Chile and Argentina, to extract 547 tons of gold.

Nobody wanted to do anything about it and put the dude in jail, so i signed a petition that is trying to help get him thrown in jail! He needs to be there. Yeah it is kinda sad, i have pictures of the whole deal and what the puppy looked like, it was sooo horrible!!  I Couldnt get over it! So again, I also just hung out today, went to get some test packet for My Vet Tech Classes. It is pretty easy so far. I have to go and take the official test tomorrow, so everyone WISH ME LUCK!!
