*More about Montreal: Montreal is known for its European flavor, it’s five thousand plus; bars, night clubs and restaurants, it’s relatively young drinking age (18yrs old), it’s relatively late “last call” 3am, it’s beautiful women, hot summer’s & great street skate spots.

Basic info, when and where were you born and where are you residing now?

April 7th 1988, born and raised in Vars, Ontario (Ottawa) and currently residing in Whistler B.C.

Why Whistler?

We’ll I’ve been snowboarding longer than I’ve been skateboarding and growing up I had always heard how good it was to live in Whistler. I had never planned on moving up here until my good buddy Karl Windle moved up, told me all about the Creekside Skatepark and how I could still skate all winter. After hearing all the good news I moved up for the season last year and now I can’t picture myself being anywhere else during the winters.

Photo Russell Brown.

How long do you plan to stay in Whistler?

I was planning on coming back every season for the next few years, but now that the Creekside Skatepark might not be here next year I might not be coming back………

When did you start skateboarding?

I started skateboarding in grade 7 just staying after school using all my friends’ boards. Then on my 13th birthday my family and I were in Victoria, so using all my birthday money I bought some second hand board from a skateshop down there as my first board.

Who do you usually skate with?

Anyone who’s down to skate like ALL the Orleans locals, FOKUS boys, EQ guys, Mitch Barrette, Matt Canadien, and my little brother Nick Gauthier

You recently got hooked up with Annum clothing, what has that been like working with them?

Working with the Annum guys Steve Wilson and Brendan Cavanagh has been sick. I only met them last year and since they’ve put me on their team I’ve become good friends with them. Instead of them just giving me free product like most companies they let me be a part of the company. I’ve been helping with some designs and other business aspects while they’ve been showing me all the tricks of the trade. They’ll be having a bunch of new clothes coming out soon so keep your eyes open for it.

Where have you traveled skating?

This past year was the first year I started taking actual skate trips besides to Montreal.

I was living in Whistler for most of the spring so I skated around there for a bit, and then moved to Port Coquitlam for 2 months. I skated mainly the Poco Park, and didn’t get any filming done the whole time I was in Vancouver. I ended up getting ragged on from all my buddies back home for that. Then moved back to Ottawa and took a trip up to Quebec City, MTL, then me and some buddies took an epic week long road trip down to Austin, Texas.

Favorite skate spot?

The Creekside underground mini bowl.

Got any travel plans for this year?

I want to live in downtown Vancouver for most of the summer, then take a greyhound from Vancouver back to Ottawa, stopping at all the big cities to skate and see some friends, and then a few more trips to the states. Then where ever else I get a chance to go travel and skate.

New Years resolution?

To stop falling on my wrists.

What is up with your wrist, it seems like you have been rocking casts for the last 6+ months?

Yeah about that…….well a few years ago I broke my right hand scaphoid and ended up getting a bone graft from my hip to my wrist along with a cast for 5 months. Then the next year I broke it again, ended up getting another bone graft from my other hip along with a pin and a cast for 4 months. I find out in a few weeks when I’m getting the pin removed. As for my left wrist I found out just over a month ago that I’ve had a small broken bone in there for most of the summer that I didn’t know about. Since I never got it checked out it’s too late to fix it, so now I have a broken bone in that wrist permanently. It sucks sometimes………..

Shout outs?

Thanks to my Mom and Dad for everything they’ve done for me, my brothers, all the older guys I looked up to skating, Garrett Dagenais, Jesse Ringer, J.I.P.S, everyone that’s helped me out, Annum Trading company, and to Lenny for making this happen.

Just a reminder that there’s another Park Board meeting coming up where the City of Vancouver higher-ups will be discussing the future of The Plaza. In case you didn’t already hear it from Emily Rose or read my earlier post , the meeting is at the Park Board Administration Building (2099 Beach Drive) on Monday, February 26th at 7pm. If you skate The Plaza, you should come.

As you’ve probably already heard , in January the Park Board wisely recommended that The Plaza be made a permanent facility, but also noted that there are a few issues to be dealt with. The main concern is that a number of City Gate residents are finding the increase in skateboard traffic along the east Quebec St. sidewalk to be annoying/dangerous/infuriating. The Coalition is working with the Park Board, Engineering, and City Gate residents to come up with some solutions. At the last meeting, only one City Gate resident came with a complaint, but you never know, right? We’ve heard that there’s a motivated anti-Plaza group and if they show up, we should be there to put up a strong front on our side.

If you want some background info, the meeting agenda is here , and the Park Board’s staff report is here .

Also keep in mind that The Plaza is on the agenda for a City Council meeting on March 1st. Not sure of the time yet.

For immediate release

August 15th, 2006 The "Zoo York’s Am Getting Paid" skateboard contest is proud to announce the Chef Raekwon from New York's legendary WU TANG CLAN has just been confirmed as the main act for the infamous "Am Getting Laid" after party.  "The Wu Tang clan has such a strong attachment in the skateboard world and countless tracks are featured in so many skateboard videos” explains contest promoter, Alex Bastide.

"Never appearing in Montreal, it was a no brainer for this legendary MC to play our after-party. Also recently added to the Saturday night lineup, Montreal's up and coming mash-up DJ's,Team Canada.

Born in Staten Island, NY, and raised in the park hill projects, Raekwon is presently one of the most popular Wu-Tang Clan members in the game. Raekwon may not have achieved the solo stardom of his fellow Wu-Tang Clan mates Method Man or Ol' Dirty Bastard, but along with Genius/GZA and frequent partner Ghostface Killah, he's done some of the most inventive, critically acclaimed work outside the confines of the group. Also nicknamed the Chef (because he's "cookin' up some marvelous sh*t to get your mouth watering"), Raekwon joined the Staten Island, NY-based Wu-Tang collective in the early '90s and played an important role on their groundbreaking late-1993 debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

Following his 1994 debut single, "Heaven and Hell," his own solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, appeared in 1995; while it didn't sell on the level of Method Man's Tical, singles like "Ice Cream" and "Criminology" earned him a strong reputation in the hip-hop underground. Moreover, the album received near-unanimous critical praise for its evocative, image-rich storytelling and cinematic Mafia obsession.

The " Zoo York’s Am Getting Paid" is an international skateboard contest in its 3rd year running.  Held on September 22nd through the 24th, this years total purse is at a whopping $15,000 USD.  This years contest is scheduled to be the biggest Eastern amateur contest to date with over 200 riders participating from around the world.

The " Zoo York’s Am Getting Laid" after-party is on Saturday, September 23rd, doors open at 10pm.

This will be a weekend not to miss!

The tickets are available at: Underworld, Off the Hook, Universe, Empire, South Parc, Juste pour Rire, Clubzone.com and Admission

$25 in advance

Located in Montreal Quebec, but known around the world.

“Designed as an entrance for torch-bearing athletes for the 76 Olympics, The Big O is a tunnel with perfectly tight transitioned walls that open up into one of the best “natural” miniramps on earth. It took the initiative of local skaters to make the spot what it is today. It’s got a good vibe. One of the more fun things to ever skate.”

“The Big O Pipe is in jeopardy. They have chosen the track and field area at the Olympic stadium, which is where the Pipe is, to build a soccer stadium , which could mean the end of the Pipe's existence. We have been meeting with people in order to make our voice heard, letting all parties involved know how much the spot means to us skateboarders. Let's save the pipe!”

Skateboarders are voicing back and seeking media spots to show how important this spot is in determination to help Save the Pipe.
