Hey all, I wanted to ask you guys some opinions and advice real quick. Ive been skating since I was 8 and few years back when I started collage I slowly stopped and fell out of the loop of things so i have some quick questions. Well I am a artist here in NYC now just finished going to SVA here in the city and as a side project and maybe hook some friends up prompted me to look into this.

Any way I was curious what you guys thought of the idea of laser etched boards like the ones shown over at http://www.refillseven.com/  . While I love the way these boards look are they really going to stand up? Some of the small details on the bottom of the desk are so small and delicate I cant imagine wanting to grind on these deck at all without killing some of these patterns big time while some i cant imagine would not stand up any diff than not being etched.

These decks are also outrageously priced I mean 500 bucks and up and this is just nuts i dont see any reason for them to be that expensive… So I just got accesses to a very nice Epilog Laser http://www.epiloglaser.com/ and being that I do all my current art on machines like this (www.shopbottools.com, http://www.tormach.com/Product_PCNC_main.html,) doing these to boards is cake hell I cant see it being all that hard at all.. or any reason to cost that much for a board that’s laser etched. Ive been making all sorts of custom mods now in just about every thing for my self and friends with my own artwork and even theirs as a sort of hobby/side project.

So my next question is for nice light colored all wood deck blanks what would you guys recommend and where to buy? Also if I can pull this off and any ones interested im all ways up to share the wealth and wouldn’t mind hooking up some custom designs on boards.

Lighter color woods engrave better while darker woods are harder to see the engraving so the deck wood color should be lighter the better but nice medium colors are cool too. Just about any material can be engraved…
