My closest skate shop is 45 min away and is actually a mtn bike shop and noone really knows anything about skateboards.  I was thinking about carrying some skate supplies and selling to local kids out of my garage.  Anyone work with skate companies and know if this is even possible or do I need to own a retail store?

i did it for abit
i managed a skate shop in my town for 3 years
and when it closed i sold stuff out of my apartment..
if you can get a local skate company involved they might supply you with some gear to sell
the only problem you may get into is if a skate shop gets ahold that your selling products they have
they can call the skate companies about it
because how shops work are on contracts
and if a shop has a contract we will say from birdhouse that they are the only ones in that area that can sell the boards
and you are selling them aswell
you could get in alot of trouble
but if you brought stuff in, and just sold it as just yourself without a name
it would be like if you where selling 2nd hand stuff
no harm in selling old stuff

That sucks man...how would I get ahold of companies that would allow me to sell?  I mean noone sells boards around here so its not like i'd be taking business away.  It'd just be nice to have some products that are local

well i don't think they will let you sell there stuff
you have to buy the stuff from the distributor
its not like they give you gear and you sell it and give them a cut
they also have min buys of like 5000
also your town has laws where you can't run a business from your garage unless it is zoned for retail business
and for a skateboard company to give you stuff, you have to be a retail location...not a garage
so there is really no way to do it
unless you buy blank stuff and just sell it as old gear
no pro company is going to do that because they want to make a huge buck
not change
no offence
so you pretty out of luck
my town doesn't have a skate shop and it sucks because without a shop they took our park away

Well looks like i'm out of luck...I def do not want to run a retail store.  I'd rather be out skating and snowboarding than couped up all day.  Oh well looks like i'll have to stock up on shit incase i need it.
