Saddam is currently on trial and he could be facing a death sentence. What should his punishment be? Should he die or live? Also, who agrees with me that his trial is a "show trial"?

I totally agree with your statement that this is merely a show trial. everybody already knows he is going to get a death sentence. the only use for this trial is that there has to be one, and while they are at it they can try to get some propaganda for the 'war on terrorism'... i think it should be life, not death...

^agreed, kutpuber. this trial is being used for propoganda purposes to get the American public caught up in a feeling of patriotism. Saddam is going to be the punching bag. He is going to take the brunt of American anger about the Iraq war. People always need to lynch someone...this someone is going to be Hussein. The Americans also want to appear democratic in their approach by providing this trial. I believe the results are already rigged. Just look at who the bloody judge is: a Kurd. Of all the candidates in the world court, why did the judge have to be Kurdish? Dont you think he is going to be biased? Does Saddam deserve to be punished? He has definately done some very bad things..but i also believe that a lot of the charges are trumped up to be more than waht they really are. Sure hes a dictator and a tyrant, but i say that we should just banish him to some island somewhere where everyone can forget about him.

the only thing Saddam deserves is to be killed the same way he killed his people at the end of Desert Storm. As in: Have him and his family placed in a gas chamber, and then, have a placibo gas come out for about ten minutes, and then common spores and cholorform. Once unconcious, they would be pumped full of incendiary, and wake up free... with bombs attached to them. so as you can see, i really dont like the guy at all. neither does the guy who helped me write that above. he's right up there with hitler in my books. to be honest, if saddam had pulled the same thing hitler did and killed himself, i would put a dr. frankinstein and bring is a s s to life to do all that to him. ok, im done ranting for now... wow its nice to get that out of my system

Posted by: saskboarder81 hahaha watch the US let him go and give him a country and WMD's and watch them attack him again. i bet it will happen i mean thats practically what happened in the gulf war. the americans went in. had him on the ropes and then they just left. i dont think george jr. expected saddam to fall so easily when he attacked him. if saddam is killed who is the US gonna attack next. they would have to find a new war monkey so to speak.

I'm gonna keep this one relatively short. Saddam yes...was a Tyrant and does deserves to be punished - but there are many others is the world still in power and are being ignored because the situation isn't economically favourable for our beloved world police (America - sorry guys - your country really stepped it up a notch with the whole - pre-emptive strike thing). He had many innocents put to death and ruled by fear - the creation of it both through propaganda and through the uses of terror squads. His people weren't given voice....and the voices of dissent were squashed through intimidation or arrests...... But.....I may as well be talking about America and Bush - the only difference is the innocents Bush killed were in another country - look it up how the Iraqi people suffered - how many children died from this invasion both from the initial attack and from the instability, sanctions, and lack of utilities - not to mention innocent men and women - and let's not fool ourselves..that's what it was....an invasion - a full on act of war. America is being held in the clutches of fear through the propaganda machine that was once known as the media - creation of a colour coded state of terror - all of this to convince people to believe in the idiot king and his lies. Yes, his lies, he's lied about many things including why the war was initiated (some of which can be found here http://www.citypages.com/databank/24/1182/article11417.asp). And the voice of Americans is being taken away through ingenious devices such as the "Patriot Act" which just got voted back in. I can't understand how a country could allow itself to have it's rights taken away in such a manner...but then again I do.....the amount of fear and paranoia created over the past few years.....and lack of alternative information (due to laziness) allowed the American people to accept such a thing. Now, if you're a voice of dissent you can easy be tapped, arrested, or black listed among many other things......and many people....wary of this are less likely then to voice opinions or participate in actions to show how they disapprove ot it's government's actions. Sounds a lot like the land of a dictator to me....not entirely yet...but definitely going down that path. If you don't want to live in a land ruled by a Tyrant.....in this case in America it's name really is big businees and the supporters and champions of it............start standing up....start educating yourself and start fighting....while you still have something to fight for. Funny how this was just supposed to be a comparison between Saddam and Bush and turned out to be a call for revolution lol.

From The Princetonian, Dec 1, 2005 In a speech rife with indignation, wit and scathing criticism of the Bush administration, Pulitzer Prizewinning journalist Seymour Hersh spoke to an audience that filled McCosh 50 about his experiences reporting in Iraq and Vietnam. Hersh, a reporter for The New Yorker and author of "Chain of Command: The Road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib," focused on his most famous reporting, including the mistreatment of Abu Ghraib prisoners, the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, and his most recent New Yorker article on the air war in Iraq. Throughout the speech, Hersh noted Bush's commitment to "stay the course" in Iraq, and argued that such a mentality portends a bleak future for Iraqis. "It's about democracy ... I'll buy [Bush's] story that he means business. And if that doesn't scare you, then nothing else I say will," Hersh said. "If I were an Iraqi, I'd start thinking about Tuscany." Hersh asserted that such a blunt approach to sticking with Iraq will only lead to more deaths. "If we get out, 30,000 will be killed. If we stay, 60,000 will be, or 90,000," he said. "I think we're down to that type of negative thinking." Instead of standing up to Bush, Hersh argued, the "feckless" Senate has backed down and refused to confront the president. "It's a great debate whether the U.S. Senate is supine or prone, but it's down," he said, drawing laughs from the audience. Hersh's article in this week's New Yorker, titled "Annals of National Security: Up in the Air," describes how the current violence in Iraq will shift toward a reliance on air combat because Iraqi troops are not well-enough trained to operate without it. In reference to America's proclaimed success in Fallujah, Hersh said, "We basically bombed the city to smithereens, and then said that we had sanitized it." After acknowledging that Saddam Hussein certainly killed innocent civilians, he dismissed that as a rationale for casualties caused by Americans. "I prefer to have Saddam doing the killing than America doing the killing, but that's just my view," Hersh said. Hersh also asserted that Bush had planned to go into Iraq as early as March 2002. Hersh argued that the abuses at Abu Ghraib stemmed from the military's inability to understand communications intercepted from insurgents. The guards at Abu Ghraib had been converted from "traffic cop duty" to prison guards, according to Hersh. He portrayed them as ordinary citizens from West Virginia who had, for the most part, joined the military to pick up some extra cash. Hersh's breakthrough as an investigative journalist came when he uncovered and reported the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, in which American troops slaughtered 500 to 550 innocent civilians. He drew parallels between the tragedy and the incidents at Abu Ghraib, showing how war can change people for the worst. In a chilling recollection, he told the audience that the mother of one of the soldiers at My Lai told him, "I gave them a good boy, and they gave me back a murderer."

Iran? hahaha, yeah, the "big boys" (Israeli pro-Zionists) behind Bush would love to invade Iran, but believe me, that is NOT going to happen right now. The political climate is not ripe. Iraq has gone to shit and the Israelis in essence lost their recent bloody foray into Lebanon. Besides, hte current President of Iran has pretty much wiped the US's ass all over the wall diplomatically. He knows we cant do anything militarily for now and is taking advantage of that fact.
Before we go into Iran, the American people have to be good and ready psycologically. With looming economic woes up ahead and disgruntledness towards the current politicians in power, war isnt happening......any time soon.  We would need something else to galvanize the American people like another 9/11.

If you  ever have the chance you should read a book called All the Shah's Men.  This book is a good reference on the history of Iran,  and its relations with  the  U.S.

Personnaly I think Saddam got a taste of his own medicine.  The people that executed Saddam were Iraqies I think.  But I strongly think that Saddam got what he deserved.
