Flat rail for sure. Flat rails are easyer to learn new grinds on b/c your truck locks in whereas rounds you can slip off and eat it hard core, also its easier to find square steel big enough rather than round steel.

I would agree with atn, square rails are better for beginners because you can lock in on them alot easier.

If you are new to grinding you hands down want a flat.  You don't slip off during 50-50s and what not.  Also your boardslides have a better balance on the rail.  Round ones are nice if you want to go faster because they generally are more slick do to the fact they have no edge so your wheels don't slide against the rail as easy meaning less friction.  I didn't think this was true but I have both flat and round rails and I definately can tell the difference.

for me i've always like round rails a lot more. I lock in just as easy on round rails as I do on flat rails.

Round rails for practicing before handrails.
Square rails for practicing before round rails.

there are new rails out now that morph
they start out as round for when you get enough balls but you side the square bar over it .
ex:
slides on easy and stays on..keep an eye out for them..we couldnt wait so we got a metal worker to build use one..but then someone stole it

Note:sorry for all the edits ...i just woke up

both flat are easyier for anything including your trucks but round is easier for board slide or two small round bars beside eachother

Round for boardslides. Square for grinds.  But if you're more grind oriented i'd recommend a box.  It was much easier to dial in my grinds on a box.
