Life stuff... With photos and words and stuff?
Saturday, December 24, 2005

It's Christmas Eve and definetly doesn't feel like christmas.  If words could only express how hard it's been raining lately then you'd understand.  But I don't think they can.
Though rain does bring 30lbs soaking wet pants and does demolish our snow base, it still brings a smile to my face.  The snow is soft, the rock gaps are still doable, and only die hards are up snowboarding.  This is the culture of snowboarding, the underground crew of people who's lives revolve around an obsession.  This passion that struck us all at a young age is still with us today, and though some strive for physical excellence, others just enjoy the time spent alone with their board.
I challenge every one of you to stop hitting the park, just for the majority of the day, and do runs.  Find those 20ft rock gaps over knolls in which you don't know if your gonna clear it or not.  Find those soft steeper pitches and learn Euro carves.  Find out what snowboarding originally was, and only then will you learn to appreciate snowboarding, no matter the conditions, weather, or snowbase.

I think I just passed through my Emo stage.  Yesterday was drizzling rain up at Grouse, but that won't stop a die hard like Barry Hartman and a patchless Gonzo from going up.
After baning my knee a couple times, we decided that park just wasn't fun anymore.  So after some careful deliberations over some pizza, we decided that taking runs were the way to go.
A little bit of rain on top of a lot of ice makes for some really fun Euro Carves.  If you don't know what a Euro Carve is, go watch some people laughing and screaming while doing huge S turns down the run and their body's are almost touching the snow.  I'm over my Emo stage, and done my rant.

So after Mr. Shapiro was kind enough to be a hero and lend me a camera until mine's fixed, I still found myself a bit emo.  Maybe it was the Bright Eyes, or maybe it was the fact that I didn't have a car?  Well, I tried the latter of the two, and bought a car.  My stoke meter went way up because now I got wheels.  I payed $500 for this car - 1988 Ford Escort, 2 door, Maroon - and it came with an alarm system that sounds like a light saber when I deactivate it.  So unbelievable cool sounding, and I'm not being sarcastic.
So I'll check back in tomorrow after work to see if I'm still emo or not.  Until then, I'll be listening to Bright Eyes, and hopefully a bit of Air while I'm at it.

So I have a new hero in my life.  His name is Robert Shapiro.  Yes, Aaron's dad.  Well, since my camera is flying over Canada to butt f*ck nowhere, he felt that I was still in need of a camera for the time being.  So, being the most generous person in the entire world, he lent me one of his!  And the best part about it, it's Canon.  And better yet, has an EF mount, enabling the use of my lenses!  It's a digital SLR with 3mp, which isn't the best, but it's sure as hell enough to  keep me flowing Atomic with images and keep me staying to my contract.  Thanks Mr. Shapiro for saving my life.
I'm still listening to Bright Eyes, not because I'm emo, but because I found out that they're a dope band.

Well, today's the day I'm sending my camera out to bum f*ck nowhere to get it fixed.  Turns out that Photographic Solutions Inc. made a faulty sensor swab, and I was the one to get stuck with it.  So, needless to say, I have a nice big scratch accross my sensor that makes a nice black line in the images.  Sweet deal guys!  It's only going to be under $1,000 to fix it.
On a lighter note, two pairs of gloves showed up with my name on them so I can actually keep my hands warm this season.  But I'd rather give up those gloves, my snowboard and the rest of my gear not to have to go through this damn proccess with Canon.  f*ck!  I got a better idea.  I'm going to get all emo and listen to Bright Eyes for the rest of the day.  That'll keep me happy for sure.

That time again, another one of these blogger things.  So being a social butterfly at a comp isn't always the best thing in the world.  I forgot that the sun sets super early at the paradise park and pretty much lost all the light when I started shooting.  That and everyone pretty much left when I busted out the camera.  Oh well, you live you learn.  Keetley's showing up was kinda cool.  It's been a while since grouse has seen that big guy, and I'm sure he'll come back one of these days.  Wait, he's a skid?  Meh, I'll make him come back.
For all of you who didn't know, Geoff Stinston killed it and won the "shred of the day" award.  The kid's like 14ish?  Which brings me to my next point.  I'm becoming quite good at this whole "guesstimation" thing as exams are wrapping up.  Last final is on friday.

Yep, so it's time again for one of those blog type deal things.  The snow fell, the batteries were charged and a small list of warm up handrails were shot and in the bag.  Last night was my first good night's sleep in over 5 days and I gotta say, it feels pretty damn good.  I met Scarth of the first time on Sunday.  Super cool guy and I learned a bunch just from watching him and his style.

Posted a bunch of photos too.  Comment and crits are dope so fire away.
