I'm the failure in part,
I couldn't reach you at heart,
I miss when it was just you and I,
And now you're tangled in a great, big lie,
I can't save you now,
I just don't know how,
I could never imagine this day,
We're both going our own way,
This nightmare is so horrific,
You're Atlantic and I'm heading Pacific,
A continent away,
That's where my broken heart will lay,
I miss the popcorn fights,
And flying kites,
Candy for brunch,
And old cereal for lunch,
The Sunday morning hike,
And learning to ride a bike,
Counting cars ride on by,
Staring at stars in the sky,
Watching planes fly away,
We watch again the next day,
Searching for fossils in the ground,
Dirt is all we ever found,
From blue to brick house at dinner time
We listen to Grandpa tell a rhyme,
After we eat,
We have a treat,
Some ice cream here and ice cream there,
Cookies and Newtons' we don't care,
We run upstairs,
Take naps in bean bag chairs,
Laugh at stupid things,
Make paper wings,
Learn how to play cards,
Run through other people's yards,
We laughed at each other,
You weren't just a cousin,
You were like a brother,
A friend greater than any other,
An amazing guy,
Why did you have to believe in her lie,
In my eyes you had died,
You were no longer by my side,
But I know it's not all your fault,
That our lives are put on hault,
And our dreams are crushed,
And our voices hushed,
If I could give you a word of wisdom or two,
It's always, always stay you,
I've known you since the day you were born,
Until the day you got your heart torn,
Keep yourself great,
Before it's too late,
I'll see you again,
My long lost friend,
Even in the bitter end,
Our wounds will mend,
But for now I miss you so,
I wish you didn't have to go,
Maybe we'll once again laugh and joke,
Drink flat, expired coke,
Watch T.V. until three or four,
Sleep on the dirty, smelly floor,
Read a long bedtime story,
We'll live again with all our glory,
For now innocence is a fail,
But one day it will prevail.
