SHOOT TO THRILL OPENS “DIGITAL DIVISION” + $2000.00 BEST PHOTO PRIZE FOR BOTH AMS AND PROS!
Color Magazine and Red Bull have received so many inquiries and applications from pro teams wanting to take part in the 2008 Shoot to Thrill contest that they have decided to open up the Digital category to everyone.
Now, any team made up of filmer and one to three skaters can upload their 3.5-5 min digital video (shot between Sept.5-7) onto redbullshoottothrill.com. From there, viewers will vote for their favorite video, granting $3000 in filming equipment to the winners. In addition to the Digital category prize, all photographers who want to submit their photos are eligible to win the $2000 prize for Best Photo.
“The line between amateur and professional are so blurred today. We’re all interested to see what the Film Division teams will bring in, but I’m most excited for the D.I.Y. entries and who the Digital Division might uncover.” —Sandro Grison, Editor-in-chief, Color Magazine

Fernandez, JB Gillet, Mikemo Capaldi, Torey Pudwill, Danny Brady, Marty
Murawski, Mike Anderson, Lem Villemin and Vivien Feil experienced the “Grey
Daze” Germany had to offer us on the recent Matix trip. The team started off at
the Bright Tradeshow in Frankfurt where Mo had a release party for his upcoming
signature Asher. Kids lined up to meet the Mo and get a free LTD Mo tee, given
to them by Mo himself.
Saturday July 11th the team threw their signatures down on a stack of posters
during their signing at Railslide Skateshop, while sipping black coffee. (The
Railslide bro’s brewed up at their in-store coffee shop.) After three days in
Frankfurt, burned out on tradeshow craze and the few cases of Becks the team
had gone through, they packed their bags, crowded into a Euro-size rental van
(which was small) and trekked to Berlin.
During their five-day stay in Berlin—no bank was left un-skated, no marble was
left un-grinded and no beer was left un-opened. When you’re skating the most
unique spots Berlin has to offer with some of our most talented Matix riders,
you get a lot of stuff done. From a Titus “Zoopreme” store signing and a load
of filming to shooting for a Monster Magazine article the 8-day stay has
produced some good coverage available in the near future.
Click Here to check out Tony E's Flick'r
account for some photos from the trip.
Look for an upcoming Matix Podcast, as well as a feature on FUEL TV’s “The
Daily Habit” coming soon. Keep an eye on www.matixclothing.com and FUEL TV for more on
“Grey Daze In Deutschland”.

Skateboarding, art and the web, Parker Newman from Popdeck.com talks about his recently launched skateboard design community. For your chance to win one of Popdeck's limited boards sign up for a profile on SkateboardVillage and send friend request to Popdeck on SkateboardVillage. On April 23rd one of Popdecks friends will be randomly chosen to win a Popdeck board.
What is Popdeck all about? Popdeck is essentially a skateboard design competition. Started out as a passion between our love for design/art and skateboarding. We have always collected cool decks as art after we skated them up, and this was just the natural progression. So who is popdeck or involved with creating the idea? My twin brother and myself start Popdeck. We were previously in the t-shirt business and have always had a passion for skateboarding. We're located in Chicago. How does it work? We have an ongoing contest for skateboard art and every 3 weeks we pick a winner, pay them a prize and print there board. The community has the obligation of choosing the winners by rating each design submitted out of 5. After a winner is chosen, we award them 200 dollars and a free deck. Don't Break my beat Board design by: nunosk8
Where are the boards made? Our boards are made in Pennsylvania by the good people of Penn Woods. Where did you get the idea for the website? We were pretty involved in the design community from our prior work, and just were so impressed by the different mediums people could use to create art. Being skateboarders since forever, it just seemed like a cool idea. Do you think more people buying popdeck’s are skating their decks or do you think they are using them as art or to hang on their walls? Right now we want to say that 90 percent of boards sold are by skateboarders. I think though over the past few years, we have really seen a push to people presenting skateboards as art and we hope to open up into that more. To be honest, you really can’t get a great piece of art for cheaper then 40 bucks. But, at the end of the day, it is a skateboard and most people are grinding them up. What do you think is the relationship between Skateboarding and Art? Skateboarding has always been a way for people to express themselves. Whether it is by mastering tricks or the entire graffiti and streetwear scene that goes with it. I think it is a dual serving relationship and we have seen a lot of artist come out that were skaters, these guys then become great artist and then give back to the skate community. A prime example of this to me is having these great grafitti artist that came out in the 90’s are now established gallery artists. One prime example is Eric Elms, he was very into that whole scene in the 90’s. Started off as just a graf writer and now we have seen his amazing art on skate brands such as Supreme. Why have you decided to produce and sell decks in only 20 units? We started this as an idea to merge art and skating, but didn’t want this to be something that was completely exposed to the masses. We are a tight niche community and we really want people to know they are getting something unique and hand made. As we grow though we hope to raise quantities, but they will always be hand numbered Squad Comic board design by: squad comic
$40 for a sweet original designed limited edition deck is a pretty sweet deal, How come you decided to make them so cheap? It was basically for a few reasons, most importantly we didn’t want price to be a reason people couldn’t experience our brand or for people to be hesitant about ordering from us. Being a direct to consumer company as well, we wanted to take advantage of our margins and give it back to the consumer. What are the plans for the future of Popdeck.com? Right now we are just making our site and community better and better. We will constantly mold and improve the site. Also, expect a ton more special contest with great prizes and what not. We are also launching a gallery section, let people show off their pics and videos for prizes. Fast Food board design by Flüke

LEO FITZPATRICK AND PATRICK O'DELL AT BLASTRAMP
Another reason to head to the Bourbon to party...
THURSDAY, APRIL 17 Color Magazine and BLASTRAMP are hosting the official pre-party for Patrick O'Dell's photo exhibit being held the day after (Friday, April 18th) at Antisocial and presented by Altamont, Color, Vice, and Timebomb Trading. “Born in Orange New Jersey, Leo Fitzpatrick spent most of his adolescence and teen years cruising the streets of New York with his friends on his skateboard. In the early 90’s, director Larry Clark began to take notice of the Big Apple’s transient youth culture. A few years later, inspired and script in hand, Clark began shooting the film Kids. Fitzpatrick was casted as the lead Telly, though at the time he had no film experience. Now a veteran to the television and film industry, Leo has made appearances on shows such as The Practice, The Wire, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and My Name Is Earl. In his many film roles, Leo has since worked with such Hollywood names as John Cusack, Kate Bekinsale, Selma Blair and Jake Gyllenhaal to name a few. Now showing his versatility, Fitzpatrick has added screenwriter and part time DJ to his list of titles. This will be Leo’s Vancouver debut as a DJ.” —Color Magazine
